I like my Big Shot too. I got a Cricut later, but I think if if I could only have one--it'd be the Big Shot. I can put anything in it, including all the Fiskar's embossing plates, etc. Plus you can put 6 or more of the little dies in it at once and roll them through. Makes cutting letters out much faster.

I read Julie's blog and was all sold on the big shot because of the even weight of it and I was worried about the plates breaking in the cuttlebug. But...I had a $35 gift card from Michaels for my birthday and after using a 40% off coupon I got it for just over $10. So I downloaded the cuttlebug plate guide that someone here so generously figured out and posted and I have had zero problems....so all in all I am a happy camper!

I think you should be ok. If it does break, I've heard they have GREAT coustomer service.

WOW - thanks everyone...I am off to check out her blog. I did see her review of the BS at Joanne's. It looks like the Big Shot is well...a big hit! (sorry, I had to...)

The people they do serve, receive great service. Others, like me on three separate occasions, get ignored and our problems with their products remain unresolved.

Seriously Mel?
I thought you were one of the hold outs for the Big Shot when costco got theirs back in. I didn't realize you had Bug issues. Sorry to hear that. I hope you get some resolution re: your problem.

Oh, I'm still holding out for the Beautiful Big Shot! I buy a lot of ProvoCraft (tho much less nowadays) and have had problems with other products of theirs that they have done nothing about.

I just got the Big Shot but haven't had the time to play with it yet. I had a hard time trying to decide which one I wanted, and read Julie HHH's info so many times I can probably recite it to you. My DH got me my Big Shot and then everything on SCS was Cuttlebug and how much they liked it. I started to doubt myself. BUT, after reading different threads on SCS, I think I made the right choice. I haven't seen threads saying that the handles broke, or little problems with the Big Shot. I even used my coupons at Mikes and bought Cuttlebug embossings to use. I know I made the right choice. Good Luck!!

I have had my Big Shot since last June and I love it. I have not had any problems with it at all and can use all the other dies and embossing folders in it.

What kind of fiskars plates do you have? Are they plastic! I saw some at Target yesterday and was tempted to buy them.

I bought the Cuttlebug yesterday. I bought it because it's compact and I'm not a heavy duty card maker (yet) I think I will only use it for the embossing techniques. I think if you are beginning, it's a good one to have.

Default Cuttlebug or Big Shot?

I am looking into buying one of the machines, Cuttlebug or The Big Shot. What is everyone's feeling on either machine? What is the best way to go? I have many brass templates and I want to use them more, so which one is best for them?

Thanks for the input!!!

Kim

The wonderful JulieHRR covers this exact subject in her blog. Here's a link: http://papertrufflez.typepad.com/pap...tting_mac.html

Hope that helps!

I think it depends on what you want to use it for and how much space you have. The cuttlebug is smaller and it is pretty contained ( i own one)... but my friend owns a big shot and she can use more templates than I can. I think price is similar - cuttlebug is cheper.

Cuttlebug is quite a bit cheaper ($48 w/coupon), and there are ways to use all those embossing plates. BISK or Wizard Charm Kit, or just rubber gasket material. (See Cat's Sandwich Stack Rules http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...d.php?t=214770 )

Big Shot is more permanent and heavier. Cuttlebug is smaller and more portable. They both do all the same things. So it just depends on what you want. I have the Cuttlebug and *love* it. It's usually available locally, which the Big Shot/Big Kick may not be.

According to experts (including Julie HRR), they are basically the same machine. One is made by Ellison. One is made by Sizzix.

Love my Big Shot! But I do not travel to scrap anymore... if I were going to go to crops and such and want to take it with me, I suppose the CB is the way to go.

What "pad recipe" do you use to make your small letter dies work well?
