Default Cuttle bug or Big Shot?

ok ladies!!! I just read several threads about this, but I wanted to get another opinion. I am loving the cuttlebug embossed look. I am not a scrapbooker, and this seems like a reasonable price for me, especially when you can get dies and stuff for $5!!! My kind of "non-SU" stuff!

So now my question is what's the difference between the big shot and the cuttlebug? Both can do the embossed looks, right? I found the big shot for $75, which I could definately afford. But.. well, what's the difference?!?!

Exclamation Big shot

Kendra,

IF you want the Big shot u can get it for 54.99 free shipping from costco. Just thought I'd let you know on that awesome special. The big shot does everything that the cuttlebug does. It's just a matter of personal choice. HTH.

Default Cuttlebug vs. Big Shot?

If you could only have one, which would it be?

Can't really chime in too much because I don't have both. But I just purchased the Big Shot. BTW Costco.com doesn't have them anymore. I'm so bummed, I went to get it tonight and what do ya know it's not there anymore. I just bought it on ebay instead But I went with BS because I went and used it at a scrapbook store and fell in love with it. But I've heard they are very comparable. There is a post somewhere where Julie broke down the differences between them all

The Big Shot kit on Costco is cheaper and full of more stuff than the Cuttlebug, and also seems to be more durable. So, I'm waiting for Costco.com to re-list the Big Shot and buy it from them, with any luck during a shipping special.

The biggest difference Julie pointed out, that made me go the Big Shot route, is that the CB has suction cups on the bottom to help keep it stable, whereas the Big Shot has a full base and is very stable. Storage space is not a problem for me, but if you have a small space, you may better appreciate the fact that the CB folds up.

I got the BigShot and its my understanding that you can use the Cuttlebug embossing folders in it as well as other dies & embossing folders. I know there is a thread around in general stamping where others where saying they had success with using other brands with the BS.

Yes. You can pretty much use any vendor's dies, etc. in the BS or the CB.

I've got a Cuttlebug and LOVE it. I've used the BigShot a bunch but went with the Bug. For me, I would have had to order the BS but the Bug I could buy locally with a 50% coupon so that was the final deciding factor. As far as comparing them goes, they do the same things and I don't think one is actually better or more durable than the other -- that's been my experience.

I have a Big Shot and I love it! I have a mix of different dies from different companies as well as fiskars plates and CB embossing folders and I've been able to use them all with no problems.

I do recommend that you get the multipurpose platform as well as the big impressions starter kit so you can do all of things you want to do with the Big Shot.

The instructions that come on the Multipurpose Platform take all of the guesswork out of what to use for each type of die or embossing folder/plate.

Thanks for the info ladies. I purchased a CB in October at a Joanns Grand Opening for $35.00. Thought it was a good price, but haven't opened the box yet. Thought maybe I still wanted the Big Shot. For the price it looks like I got a good deal! and it will do everything the BS will do.

I also have been wondering which to get...I was leaning towards the CB for the great price w/coupon, but as Julie stated in her blog I am worried about my weak wrists due to CT...haven't been able to try either of them out in person...to really see if it would bother.

I do like the idea that the BS seems to be "planted" a little better, but the CB is so cute looking.

I went with the 'bug for 2 reasons: Like frankie, I was able to get it locally, and used a 60% off coupon the day after Thanksgiving. Paid just over $30 for it. I also love that it folds up. When I'm not using it (what??) it takes up very little space on the shelf. That said I've never used the big shot. I hear they're pretty much the same machine except for the folding platforms on the bug.

I ordered the Big Shot through Costco in November when they had the beginner kit for $59 and no shipping charges. Before it was delivered I was walking through Joanns with a 40% coupon and decided to buy the Cuttlebug for a bit cheaper thinking I would return the Big Shot when it was delivered. However, I ended up returning the Cuttlebug because in the first week the handle broke and the B plate broke. The Cuttlebug also didn't come with any accessories. The Big Shot starter kit came with dies and embossing folders and worked just fine. So, in the end, the Big Shot was a better bargain and choice for me. All the dies and embossing folders are compatable with each other, so I went with the machine that seemed more stable to me.

I love my Big Shot and it works with all other dies and embossing products. I like the firm feeling the it's weight gives it when rolling something through. I am anceint and have hand and wrist problems and can use it with ease. I just love the Cuttlebug A2 embossing folders and have made a stash for future use. I find it works better when there is a lot of humidity in the air. That's my excuse, believe me or not?

I'm getting the Cuttlebug...I recieved a Cift card for Michaels art's and Crafts for Christmas....
And my Birthday is right around the corner So I will wait till I get the Extra money to spend on my CB.

And with a 40% off coupon I should be doing good.

I might even have some money left over for something else.

I like the way it looks and space saving which is good for me. Since I really don't have ton's of room in my stamp area....

Still need to do more cleaning.....Next year Dh is going to be putting my computer in my stamp area and my Copier too...... My own Office.
GEE He'll never see me again...lol!!

That's me now . . . last month I moved my stamp room into the office -- I needed to seperate my quilting/sewing from my stamping/scrapping so now I practically live in my new stamp room since I have the 'puter! Enjoy!!

I just got the BS...it is on sale at joanns right now for $83.99 and I got free shipping with code THANKSEC1257...I think I will be happy with it and won't have sore wrists and be able to play with it right out of the box since it comes with a little starter pack. I am so excited and will be even packing the thing up with me and taking it to MN to play with while on leave!! Thanks for everyones advice!

Question

Question about the Cuttlebug vs Big shot?

For those that have one.

Because my Right wrist and hand doesn't function the way it use to. Which would be better to get?
I lost 40% use of my right wrist and hand. So some range of motion is very hard for me to do.

I was thinking about getting the Cuttlebug only because of it's size and price.

Please give me some advice.

The handle grip on the BS was more comfortable for me than the CB's.

I went with the Big Shot as I read many post here on SCS about the bug breaking. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Big Shot as it SO EASY to use!! It is one smooth machine!! Blows my quickutz away!! I can't tell you how happy i am with this machine!! I love that i can use all of my Quickutz dies on the BS as well. Only down side I can see is I'm going to go broke buying all the embossing folders and die cuts out there that are just too stinking cute not to own!!!! I just wanted to add that i have no personal experiance with the cuttlebug.
I bought my Big shot from Costco.com. BEST price anywhere I found.

What is/was the price on Costco? Are they still out of stock? I heard they were out. Do you have to have a Costco membership to buy online? Off to check out the Costco website. I am thinking about getting the BS on my next TAC party with a 50% off hostess benefit. That will make it just under $65 for the machine with starter kit. Just checking all my options before I send in the order. Thanks to all that have weighed in on this thread.

Default Big Shot vs. Cuttlebug article

Denise Bryant has a great article on her blog called Big Shot vs. Cuttlebug. It's really well done. Her blog is called All things Stamped. The article is great if you are in limbo about what to buy. I have a Big Shot and I love it but I had it pre-bug. If I was deciding now, I would want all the help I could get. And beside, Denise is very sweet. I hope my hyperlink worked! LOL. If not, I'll be back.

Default BS vs. CB

I went with the Cuttlebug after much research. One nice thing was I could buy it locally with a 50% coupon, and most of the accessories, but the Big Shot I would have to order online. ACM and Mikes have a few of the Big Shot compatible dies , but not much at all.

I really am happy with the CB. It embosses like a dream, and the diecuts are fun. This is my first experience with a DC machine, and it has been great.
