All the comments & reviews from demo's I have seen it is not worth the investment. I won't be getting one. If I need screen printing I will take it to a local store that does that kind of work. Besides, for as little as I would be using it, it would only become another object to take up room & dust in my craft room.
Wow- you dust in your craft room-- you are so commited!

Default any one else

I love my machine, but tonight it started cutting more then I had it set for so pushed the stop button, it locked up; said it was canceling but didn't do anything so after a few min, tried to call the company with no luck, past hours, so unplugged it, after trying to shut it off and unload the paper. Anyone else with that problem ever??? Gloria

I've not had that particular problem. I have Design Studio and when I need to stop the Cricut while it is cutting and I don't click cancel on the software but hit Stop on the machine. It stops cutting but my software locks up. I have to close the software and turn the cricut off, then back on. Not much help, but my motto with electronics is " When all else fails, turn it off, then back on."

Whew. I'm glad you could sleep without worrying about it. I'm so funny. When mine acts up just a little bit, I get all anxious. I've only had mine about a month, but now I can't see myself living without it.....

Default know what you mean

I am the same way, sure it must be me that did the wrong thing if something doesn't work right. I'll try it later and let you know if it works. I know I just love it, and am so happy not to be buying all the letters alone I need for scrap book pages. Gloria

Default Cricut

Before purchase, is there a way to hook this up to a computer so that you can create your own designs or get some off the web? It works for embroidery machines, seems it should work for this.
Thanks,Stacy

Well I have finally joined the ranks of the Cricut owners.......I got a steal of a deal on a Cricut with the George cartridge for $100. It was hardly used by the lady who I got it from and she just wanted to get rid of it. I have spent the last couple of days just playing with it and reading all the tips and tricks here on SCS. I have the SCAL program which is amazing and am going to try working with Inkscape ....if I can figure it out. Thanks to all who have posted great tips on here.....it is so helpful.

I'm hoping you ladies have seen this...I saw a picture of a woman's scrap room and she had a Cricut Clock, with the green bug. Anyone seen this or know where to get it?

Smile Question about cleaning mat

Hi,
I remember reading in here about how someone cleaned a mat to make it tacky again and last longer. Rather than searching through pages and pages, thought I'd just ask again. Any help is appreciated!

Gloria (and everyone), occasionally the software will get into a loop and it will lock and the only thing to do is to shut it off completely. You need to leave it off for at least ten seconds, then turn it back on and it should be fine.

Sometimes it goes into a loop for no reason. Sometimes it will do that if you try to type in entries faster than the system can handle it. And like a teenager, it doesn't always hear the word "no" [cancel, or stop]. So if it's doing something bizarre, just shut it down and let it clear its memory and it will be as good as new.

The first time this happened to me I totally panicked too, thinking I broke this, just after it came off warrantee. But it was during the day and I called the company and an absolutely wonderful person walked me through the whole thing and taught me tons and tons about how it works.... I learned more in that conversation -- she told me so many wonderful little tips about using the machine etc.

Hi, Annette,

I'd like to know about that too. Also, does anyone have issues with a new mat being too sticky? I actually ripped paper trying to get it off!

Hi Annette and Cathy,
I was just looking for the same information. From what I have read, someone uses 2 way glue and lets it completely dry before using the mat again. I think I also saw something about spraying it with stampin mist and letting it dry completely. That was on the first page of posts to this thread. My mat was very sticky at first and I too tore my paper when removing it - but now that I have used it it is much better.
Hope this helps - if anyone else has any tips please let us know. Time to go play!!

What I do is:

1. Clean the mat with GooGone or a similar product to remove every bit of old adhesive.

2. Wash with dish soap. Let dry completely.

2. Spray with Krylon Easy Tack. Let dry completely.

If the mat is too sticky at first, press a clean t-shirt down and lift it up.

Letting the mat dry completely is very important. After washing with dish soap, I dry mine with a towel and then let it air dry for a bit. After spraying with the Krylon, I usually let it dry overnight, just to be sure. I have a couple mats, so it doesn't slow me down to let one dry overnight.

Is there a Cricut cartridge that makes scallop circles and ovals?

Plantin Schoolbook has an oval and circle but it is not scalloped; Accent Essentials have various shapes that are somewhat scalloped.

Have tried many 'remedies' to keep the mat sticky - now I just use blue painter's tape to hold the cs in place and find it works well.

Mini Monograms makes scalloped circles

Zooballoo makes scalloped squares

Storybook makes a lot of scalloped shapes.

I bought DS before I heard about SCAL - I'm just now thinking about installing it, am I correct to think just to go and download from the Cricut site the recent update and then put in the serial number when prompted rather than use the CD it came with?

I recently bought Cricut Design Studio (and am having a lot of fun playing) and was wondering if anyone knows a good website to download .cut files. I have made several myself but want to get some more ideas. I have been searching the internet for days and have only found a couple.
Thanks for your help.

Have you been the forum on Cricut's website? They have forums for every cartridge, each machine and design studio. Lots of people post cut files there. I participated in a title swap of cut files there and ended up with 170 titles files.

Thank you Michele, I will check it out.

One more question... Can anyone explain: "keep preview as mat background"? I watched the tutorial video on Cricut.com but I still don't understand.

If this option is checked, it will keep the preview on the screen once you click preview even if you click on the mat to edit, add, etc. I never use that option b/c the preview gets in the way. You have to click preview each time you make a change anyway to refresh it. HTH!

does anyone know of a site where I can see all the images that the new kitchen & bath decor will cut? I've been to a bunch and still see just the same few images - that can't be all there is on it, right?

Does anyone know if you can use the Cricut to dry emboss. I had read somewhere that there is a special tool (blade) to do this???

You can make embossing folders for your Cuttlebug using your Cricut. Is that what you are talking about? Those are fairly new products on the market by Provo Craft.

Not sure I understand. I was thinking of purchasing a cuttle bug to do dry embossing but then I heard that you could emboss on your cricut. I dont know what an enbossing folder is. Sorry

As far as I know, you can't get a blade to emboss with the Cricut. Embossing folders are used with the Cuttlebug to emboss. You can make those with the Cricut embossing folder kit, but you can't emboss with the Cricut.

You can make the embossing folders with either Cricut.

I amlooking at the mickey font cartridges . . . there are mouse ears with an M inside, can someone tell me if that M is the only option, or is it one of the features that lets you insert which ever letter you want? Thanks . . .
