Martha,
After you downloded synch did you update the gypsy?

If so they are probably there. Open a new project on gypsy and click the keypad button. Once you see the keypad click the box at the bottom of the screen that has the cart name, it will take you to a list of carts. Clik the box at the top and you can filter it by "linked cartridges" and all the ones you have linked and the free download ones should show up in a list. click on the cart you want to design with. If they are not in that list then hook the gypsy back up to your computer and update it again.

Perhaps this has already been mentioned, but anyone thinking about buying Design Studio may want to wait. Provocraft is suppose to release "Craft Room" in April I believe. I think it is safe to assume that there will be no updates to DS...not that it has ever been updated on a regular basis anyway.

Here is a link to the press release from Provo Craft on Feb 2: Craft Room

It looks like they have been listening - this online tool will allow you to cut from both your own personal image libraries and their cartridges. Yeah!!! I was just about to buy Design Studio too. Glad I waited.

I am excited because I can use a real size screen to design and its FREE. I have been hesitating spending another $60 for software for the Cricut.

The Gypsy is just too small a screen for me. And manually, I spend all my time looking through the books to find a design instead of designing LOL. Even with the new program, I will keep using my SCAL software - I love that too and like being able to use all my fonts.

I think that Provo Craft is moving in the right direction - they still are not allowing printing of any product but their own, even with this new software. However, I am just glad its free and will help me design faster from my laptop - which I use to design out of Illustrator & PS anyway. I believe the Gypsy will connect via USB through the computer, so it will be able to see all my linked carts.

Not a complete solution - but when I saw the video I thought it was definitely a move in the right direction. You will access the software through your Cricut account, so you will be able to work on a design where ever you are with an internet connection.

I was actually wrong about the ability to cut from your own libraries - they are not going to allow that in the Craft Room feature either. So, I am still glad to have invested in SCAL.

I got the gypsy for xmas and I do not regret it. I found that I was not using my carts at home, only scal (which I love BTW!) but DS took too long to load and I had to swop out carts (what a drag) but with the gypsy I have everything at my fingettips. I got 7 carts with my gypsy for $100 (inc shipping) so the price was right then linked the few other carts I had. I have been lending my baby-bug to one of my crafty friends so now I can lend her all of my carts too (Except for the one I need to keep in my machine to run scal) and still have access to them all.

Yesterday her and I went to a crop, she broght the litttle cricut and I brought my gypsy, it was perfect and since I only have 19 (only 19-gimme a break right!) carts on there my options were limited so I designed quicker and you know what, I had everything I needed I do not want to be limited to only cutting where I have internet, the gypsy is a good investment IMHO.

PS my kids can work it too, it is so funny, they pick it up and with no fear create! They get such a kick out of it LOL!

Well, I've only had my machine a month and that was the first cartridge I felt I HAD to have but was waiting to get a good price. Still more than I've spent on any of the others ($22.95 plus tax).

So where did you find it for that price?? I paid $28 on Ebay and I thought that was a good deal! Lots of times they went for more!

Cricut Machine dot com. I've been watching them on eBay and you did get a good price. With shipping charges this site isn't as good a deal but they did 24 hours of free shipping on monday (I posted it here) which made it a winner in my book.

Heading off to sub to Chatter #4.

I'm wondering if any of you have the "Summer in Paris" cartridge and if you have cut out the cool hot air balloon? I borrowed my friend's cartridge last night and tried cutting it out. First I tried it at 4 inches and then at 6 inches. The ropes on the right hand side are cutting so thin that when I am cutting the fancy cutwork part of the image they just cut right through and pull off! I am so disappointed in this and wonder if anyone knows a "work around" for this problem or if she has a faulty cartridge or what?

I had the same problem. It never cut this very well. I remember spending a lot of time getting the speed and blade depth right. I gave up on the sides and ended up either cutting them with my paper trimmer or using some embroidery floss on the cards I did. I need to put a notebook by my machine so when I get it right I write it down. Maybe someone else can give us some pointers.

I love the designs but you have to cut them really big with a fresh blade and sticky mat, a real PIA if you ask me

I have had my Cricut Expressions 2 for about 4 months now and the only reason I bought it was kerning. I wanted to cut words without it cutting each letter. Just the outside of the word. Can this happen? If so how? I am also not getting the cutting depths and speeds. Too many options and I am not sure what to choose. I cut paper and vinyl. I have only used it once to cut days of the week in vinyl and it was an epic fail. I have the Cricut Expressions too but have not used it. Would it be easier to use it instead?

select the blackout shadow key before you cut the word, this will work if it is a pre-programed word, not if you are typing letters to make a word tho. In that case you need to use design studio or gyplsy to weld the letters in the blaclout mode and cut from that program.
