from the village I work for via auction. it is 4 x 6, on a pedestal with power outlets on it. Drafting machine included (great for line work) as well as electric height adjustment. Bought for $150 with with a professional drafting chair. Search for office /engineering firm auctions or businesses. Wouldn't be without it.
I agree- Ikea really has a great selection. Here's what I did. I used a thick piece of wood that was an old counter at work. I bought three different legs from Ikea and use those to sit the counter on. That way I can have my computer and some storage under the table but LOTS of room on top. My "desk" is about 6-7' long and 3' deep. Love it!
I have an old office desk.. You know those huge metal things. it's awesome. it's sturdy. has a huge top, lots of drawers.. plus we paid $30 bucks for it i painted it silver
I use a banquet table I got at a local office furniture resale shop. It's 8 feet long and 3 feet wide. I love that I can have "stations" along the back and roll back and forth along the length of it to cut, CB, stamp, etc as I need to. I also have a bunch of drawers and bins underneath the back end, as well as shelving, etc up the wall. Everything is well contained within the 8 foot footprint.
Hi,
I use something similar to this: http://www.trillora.com/mns-32618.html
(I have no idea what this store is, just googled scrapbook table, and the picture is close to what I have.)
I have a 6 draver Iris cart on the right underneath the table, and my most used supplies are in that (paper cutters, acrylic blocks, stamp cleaner, adhesive, etc.) and my trashcan sits to the left. I really like the tray on the right - it holds things like scissors, paper piercer, xacto blade, pencils, pens, rulers, bottles of gamsol, stamp cleaner, glue, etc.
I also like that the height is adjustable. I can make it as tall or short as I want. My husband gave it to me as our one month anniversary gift, and now, 11 years later, it is still going strong!
Depending on what size you want and whether you have wall room, I used countertop..you can get remnant countertops at Mendards for a good price. I love it because I could put it at what height I wanted and the height worked out so all my rolling paper holders and other plastic storage drawer thingys fit underneath it. Then i hung as much stuff on the walls so things are at my fingertips.
After buying 2 Ikea bookcases and re-organizing my craft room I had an extra craft table that no longer fit in the room - so I tried to give it away. Listed it on Freecycle and on Craig's List - no takers. It's a nice oak table - sturdy - no drawers - that I'd used for sewing and crafts.
So now my husband is in the garage taking it apart and cutting it down so that I can fit it under the window in my craft room.
I just got this desk in black-brown from Ikea last week. The table surface is nice and deep (a lot bigger than it looks in the picture), and each cubby is about 13w x 13h x 18 1/2d - plenty big enough for 12x12 cardstock. Dh is actually the one who talked me into getting it, and I'm so glad I took his advice - I love this desk!
Hijacking this thread a bit!! DH says I have to much stamping crap. hmm I call art supplies!!! He has banned me from buying that build it yourself stuff from michaels and he is none to fond of the Ikea stuff either. Any suggestions for something that has alot of storage and is sturdy for under $100??? Pics please if you have them. Oopps forgot to add house really old and can't hang things!!
Thanks so much.
Shelley

I am very short--under 5'--and find that craft tables are ALWAYS too high for me, and my back and arms just kill me after trying to craft. So I gave up and bought a custom made cutting/work table, just the right height for me. Even though it's meant for cutting fabric and sewing, it works perfectly for stamping, too. It's not cheap, but for me it's worth every cent. Here's the link-- http://www.traceystables.com/products/
DH also installed a countertop in my craft room for sitting at my sewing machine--just a scrap piece of countertop from a home supply store, and it works perfectly.

Check out second hand stores in your area--particularly those that receive donations for worthy causes, such as Uhuru in Philadelphia. When I lived there, I picked up a matching set of Workbench brand birch office furniture--two two-drawer legal files, a lateral two-drawer file cabinet and a rolling drawer unit with two smaller drawers and a file drawer. They were in excellent condition, and even with delivery cost only a $140 for all. I put a salvaged (from a neighbor moving back to Australia) heavy rectangular glass top (rounded corners) from a coffee table (about 3ftx6ft) on top of the two legal files to make my desk. Once you have worked on a glass top, you won't want anything else. It's very stable, smooth and level, is a built-in cutting surface, paint and glue scrape off and it cleans up with Windex (Well, it is that easy to clean when I can find the surface!) I store all my unmounted stamps in hanging file folders in the drawers so they are at my fingertips. I've loved it enough to have it moved across the country (believe me, that top is HEAVY!!) Pat
I have bought two desks from ikea and not the cheap ones. Unfortunately, even though they are beautiful, they can not stand a lot of work done on them. I stamp a lot and need to use pressure...both desks got a nice curve in the middle where I usually stamp. Now, I went and bought a nice desk from Target that can hold 400 lbs. It's a beauty and it was not all that expensive. The other nice thing about it is that it is quite large and has shelves underneath on both sides to store anything you want. I absolutely love it!!!
I have a 6 foot banquet table (like they have at churches, etc.) Picked it up at a garage sale a few years back. Long enough to store everything I need on it, like my heat gun, pencils, cutters, etc. Plus a 3 drawer plastic cube for small cutters, adhesives, and coloring items. The bonus is that I can use it as extra seating if I have to for dinners at my house (the teardown and cleanup are a massive headache, but sometimes worth it at Thanksgiving).
You can also get them at office supply stores (see link for example)
I stalked my local Craigslist for a few months looking for desks and/or tables. I finally found two corner desks and a drafting table that raises/lowers/tilts.
Here's what I ended up with. The drafting table is super sturdy(and heavy!) I like that I can raise it if I feel like working on something standing up, or lower it to sit.
Excuse the mess. I was still in the process of setting up. (I still am, actually. It's a work in progress. I'm hoping for paint on the walls by next year, wall cabinets within 5 years. But for now, it works.)
I actually use an old dining table as I have room for it. I love it since I like everything within my reach (and I have a long reach). My main suggestion for a table is buy one that is hard with no give. If your table has give, you'll need to put a hard pad under your stamping surface otherwise you'll have difficulty clearly stamping large images.
