Default Copic Color Help Needed

I really need some assistance from the Copic Experts. I am about to order my first Copic Sketch Markers and have cruised sites to find colors, but I need help with selecting some.

I want Browns that I could use on Animals like a cat or reindeer.

I want Grays that I could use on a Cat or Mouse.

I want a Brown that would be good on a Gingerbread image.

On a Snowman image what would you use to give it some dimension, a blue or gray and what color?

Also what would be a nice yellow for a star?

Favorite Highlight color to use around images to have them stand out.

I really appreciate any help that anyone could provide.

Thank You,
Kari

Hi Kari - this is probably a personal taste issue but for what it's worth, here's my take:

The browns I use most are Brick Beige, Chamois and Dark Brown - this set will do the job for lots of different animal images. Brick Beige would probably do your gingerbread image too although you might want to go to something more like Caramel for that.

Warm Grays are probably your best bet for mice as they have a slightly brown tone rather than a blue tone - I have Warm Gray 1 and 3 and build up layers if I want darker areas.

Snowman - probably Cool Gray 1 or Light Bluish Gray.

Cadmium Yellow is a good vibrant yellow.

For going around the outside of an image it depends what effect I want overall but any of the grays in a number 1 or something like Cool Shadow is good.

HTH!

Hi Kari- Joanne has pointed you in the right direction, and it is all about personal taste. I'm in no way a Copic expert, and I actually just started using the markers myself, but I'll offer you some combos that I keep turning to, time after time.

Browns- like Joanne- I too like the Brick Beige, Chamois and Dark Brown combo. I also find myself using Light Suntan, Reddish Brass and Copper combo too.

I would second the warm grays for mice images, but I would go a little darker for the cat images maybe cool grays for that. And start with a lower number like a 2 or 3 and then layer with a 5 or 7.

I also use the lowest numbers of cool gray for outlining/adding dimension to images.

I reference Marianne Walker's blog frequently for copic coloring tutorials and such. here is the link: http://ilikemarkers.blogspot.com

best of luck to you!! its so much fun getting started with these markers. (Although I'm slightly addicted now)

Thank you so much for the help, I really appreciate it. I think the hardest thing about picking the copic colors is trying to buy them online when the colors on the monitor don't look accurate.
