Default copic ciao ?

if you could get one set of 72, would you get A or B

I think I am going to go with ciao's for the price, will I regret not saving the extra $1 per marker?

Did you check out oozak.com? I got 72 sketch markers for $259, no shipping, no tax. I actually bought 2 sets of 72...I got the papercrafting a and the papercrafting b set...I think that should be okay for awhile - lol. When you go to oozak.com, register, sign in, then sign out and then sign back in and the prices drop. The price for 72 starts out at $327, but after you register, all the prices change.

It really is a personal preference on colors.

Looking at the two sets and what I use there are more colors in Set A that I frequently use. They are also the cool greys vs the warm greys in set B and I tend to go toward that. If I were going to get one set, I would get A and then add a few of the colors from B to complement - R22, Y21, YR31, G28 are the key ones I use. (I would probably also get G24 as G21 and G28 are too far apart to blend well.)

I can't decide if it's worth the extra $70 for the sketch. dh will freak lol he thought I was nuts for wanting a set for $200, and I didn't even tell him it was one of two set's I'd need. If I go for sketch then I'd "need" all 4 sets at some point LOL poor guy will have a heart attack

I know exactly what you are going through. I spent the last week searching every site possible for the best prices, agonizing over which sets, what colors, ciao or sketch! It is such a difficult decision. And I haven't even gotten mine yet and I am already thinking about my next purchase!

I'm biased - I have the Ciao A & B and truthfully I have them mixed together so that a whole color family is together and in numerical order so I can't tell you what I use from either more.

I do try to push myself to use a variety of colors and not just my favorites. I'm now in the process of collecting my "most used" refills.

I'm no expert but I don't worry too much about the numbers being too far apart... if you lay down a nice juicy light base, put on the other color and then blend the light color over the join it tends to work for me.

I do second Oozak I got mine from them - the only thing I would even think about changing is that I would have ordered them as sets of 36 as the 72 case is rather large and four 36 marker cases would be more versatile for my needs.

I took the Copic plunge last Spring myself and was guided by the advice of someone I respect who suggested not buying a set. She suggested buying markers from color families I use regularly. I spent a lot of time looking on blogs for color combinations and then actually went to a local Dick Blick store and colored with them. I was able to create a collection that have suited my needs very well.

I ended up ordering from Carpe Diem twice, along with a couple smaller purchases from the local Dick Blick store. The only color set that I want to add to my collection is a more olive green combination. I have a few Chao, but mostly Sketch. I love the Sketch because of the numbers on the end of the marker. The numbers on the end make it easy to find the marker I'm looking for.

Isn't the only real difference between Ciao and Sketch, the fact that you can't use Ciao with an air gun?

I would recommend buying the individually rather than in the sets, if you are wanting to shade and highlight.
I have Ciao and Sketch, and have no regrets buying either type, one colors are well as the other.

If you start out small with a budget, try Oozak.com . They have free ship over $50, and he ships SUPER fast. Great customer service. If you register as a customer, the Ciao are $2.85, and Sketch are $4.15. My budget is around $50 anyway so it's a a great place to shop.

Just remember that you can make your own background papers that will match perfectly so there is no reason to have an unloved color

That's what I did here with a straight edge and the colors I used in the image - http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...&ppuser=158209

Truthfully, I really don't like buying background papers - I just have trouble finding exactly what I like when I want to use it etc...I am going to start investing in more background stamps and less papers.

You'd might as well face it. Once you get one set you'll want the other. My advice is to find a good deal and get them all. I got mine off Ebay. Enjoy them!!

I'm attaching a chart I found earlier on one of the forums for Copics. If it doesn't work PM me and I can email it to you.

Two tips might be helpful are that you want a couple of numbers between, for example a 30 and a 31 are too close in color, so go up at least two. Secondly, one way to save yourself some money is to buy the lightest and the darkest because you can pull the midtone off of the darker color.

I learned some of this from Suzanne Dean's blog. She's got a bunch of YouTube videos. http://www.scrapbitz-tutorialsandtem....blogspot.com/

I notice you are from MN - if you live in the Twin Cities area - Dick Blick in the Rosedale area (next to Archivers) has an amazing selection of colors and they don't mind you going in and using the colors on paper to see if those are the markers you want! They are very friendly.

Check out this site: http://www.treehousestamps.com/info.html
She sells the markers in groups of 4 for $15 and there is free shipping when you spend $50. She also had some single ciao colors for $3 each.

And this site lets you make your own custom set:
http://www.copicmarkers.com/storefro...spx?sfid=78416
You get to pick the colors you want 12 for $38.61 and they include a plastic case, and it ships for free.
Yeah...I spent a lot of time looking into this...good luck making up your mind.
I am sure what ever colors you decide to buy, you will want more.

I feel a weak moment coming on. I may have to sleep on it and see if passes! Love the idea of being able to create a custom 12 pack. You are definitely right - there is always a need for more colors! (Which is why I wish I had gotten hooked on prisma pencils!!)

how do the "papercrafting" sets compare to the regular sets. Would they be a good choice?

The papercraft sets have more colors in "groups" for blending...
You get like 2 or 3 shades of similar colors. Papercrafting set A is adequate on its own, then with B you get some more color groups inbetween the ones you got in set A. If you have the time and patience, print out 2 or 3 blank copic charts. Look at each set online and mark off the boxes on the chart of the colors that are in the sets. And then you can get a better idea of the color groups that are in the set.
