Default Compressor for Copics--How About a Nebulizer?

Okay, so my girls have had asthma and breathing problems since they were tiny (they are now 16). Anyway, one has been very sick this past week, and she has been using the nebulizer a lot. As she was using it I thought "This is a compressor. Will it work for my Copic airbrush?" Has anyone used a nebulizer for your Copic Airbrush system? What do you think? I thought about e-mailing Marianne but I will ask here first. Thoughts?

We have this nebulizer, and it's 35 psi. I wonder if I could just get the correct Copic tubing and it would work. Gosh, if this works many of you with nebulizers might be able to do the same thing!!!

Yeah, wouldn't it be great if they work!!!! I just don't know about the tubing and connection. Hmmmmm? I wonder if there is an expert with a nebulizer at home that can try.

We have a nebulizer too for 6 year old DD. That would be interesting if it did work. I'll be watching this thread.

You could buy tubing at a pet store and a nozzle from a craft store (coupon!) and give it a go without a big investment. In theory, it should work but I wonder if the psi is high enough. (I love airbrushing but haven't done it for years -- did some amazing work in my dream last night, though.)

Well, we have tubing for the nebulizer just not sure if I can use that tubing or need special "Copic" tubing. Maybe I should just hook it up and try. I certainly wouldn't want to blow myself up though. LOL!

the PSI would probably be fine- it's the connection that I would love to see you get working- good luck!!

We've been known to blow up little kiddie inflatable toys, beach balls, balloons, etc with a Nebulizer. It does seem to work as a compressor! You might want a second set of tubing just because the Copics might give off a bit of an odor that the kidlets would then be breathing. In desperation once, we blew up a twin size air mat with the Nebulizer!

They're good for all kinds of things. Oh, and breathing treatments of course

I think this sounds like a really good idea! I think you should just try it! Although maybe cover the entire room with a drop sheet first just in case! lol

Patter, I have a nebulizer also and I looked it over last night. I don't know how an air host that fits the Copic trigger spray would attach to the nebulizer.

The big concern I would have is the motor. The motor on the nebulizer is not made to run continuously and for as long as you would be if using it with the ABS... I'd be afraid of burning the motor out and having to explain that to the insurance company... I'd doubt they would consider "airbrushing" normal use. LOL

Thanks for the laugh, Mary Beth...that was a good one!

I love the way the creative minds work on this website. It will be interesting to see how things work out - I have my fingers crossed for everyone!

Personally, I got lucky and found an old compressor in the office that we used to make models of our projects for clients (I work for a large architectural firm and builidng models is a thing of the past now that everything is computer generated). My boss said I could have the compressor so I took it home and now I just keep looking at it and am trying build up the confidence to start trying to use the airbrushing system with my copics.

Yes, I couldn't get the tubing to fit the Copic Air Adapter. I need to get different tubing and not sure I can. When I airbrush, it is on much less than it is when my dd's use it for meds. And we bought the nebulizer so no worries about the insurance co. I may buy another nebulizer anyway. They are cheap now-a-days. LOL!

If it works for both, great! Of course my kids health comes first. They have zillions of health issues, and after 16 years it all becomes "old hat." It's part of our lives, and if we can use the nebulizer for cards, cool! Won't hurt the nebulizer any, and I know the kids would get a kick out of it. I haven't told them my idea yet. I thought I would just let them see me using it. I would LOVE to see that reaction! LOL!

so as far as tubing goes, it isn'ta copic specific tube, your would need to be able to attach the air regulator that is attached to the copic marker grip. The connector on the air regulator is a "standard" size 1/8" hose fitting.

The ABS 3 copic kit has the grip and the regulator in it and you would get your own hose, mine came with my compressor. I bought an artists compressor one from Harbor Freight and paid about 60.00 for it.

My niece cracked up laughing when she saw us using the Neb to blow up the air bed. Now she goes and grabs it when she wants to blow up balloons - people think we're very nutty! LOL!
