Coloring or painting on acetate?

I've used a lot of glitter on acetate. Brilliance black ink, stazon, both work well, but I'm wondering what to use if I would like to color in an image.

I've tried twinkling H20s, watercolor crayons, copic markers . . . would you use an acrylic paint maybe? Anyone know?

Did the copics not work? I would imagine that sharpies or copics are your best bet since they are alcohol based. Anything water based will not work. You could also try reinkers for alcohol inks such as ranger. The only problem is if you stamp the image in staz-on and then color with alcohol based products it will smear. Maybe someone else has a better answer I'm curious now.

Yeah it really surprised me that I didn't get better coverage with the Copics, since I figured the issue with the other mediums was the water base. Don't get me wrong, the copics did do something, but it was so light in color it almost wasn't there.

I have used sharpies, and that has worked well for me. Also, I saw a technique once where a lady mixed a regular reinker (water-based ink) into crystal effects and used that as a sort of paint. Looked like stained glass.

You can avoid this by stamping on one side, flipping it over and colouring on the back.

I think to get decent colour with Copics you probably need to use darker shades than you would on a paper base and then it's always going to show up better if you back it with a light coloured cardstock when you're done.

Oh, I forgot to say - if you get the transparancies that are designed for inkjet printers they have a 'toothy' surface on the printing side. I've used watercolour pencils (with water!) on there - this is a close up of the lilies from Long Stemmed done with that technique. The flowers use watercolour pencils for the green and white colouring, the background is stamped with cheesecloth texture and then coated in Versamark and lustre powder (like Pearlex) brushed over it.
