Default Cinch-round holes or square holes?

I want to make Smash- This and That like books. I didn't realize until today that Cinch now makes a round hole machine and a square hole machine.

Anyone have a preference and why?

I want to order one next week, so I have to make a decision!

It's all about what you like. I'm partial to my bind it all, so I like the square holes. Many others like round holes. I also like square because the norm for commercial binders are round. I think the square holes adds a little artsy touch.

I love both the round holes and square holes. I do not have a Cinch. I use a different very old binding machine to make round holes.

Square holes I use the Bind-it-All. The BIA can be a bit hard to use, a little bit of a learning curve and you do it the wrong way and get pinched. I like to call it the Pinch-It-All.

I love bookbinding and I adore Smash books. For most of my smash books I like making round holes. I feel it gives more room. Once you start Smashing your books can get thick.

Square binding I like for journals. The kind of journals sold at Barnes & Noble. The square holes make for more elegant flat pages. I just love how cute mini books are with square holes.

Now, I don't want anyone coming in here and yelling at me saying "Square holes make great Smash Books!" "You are discriminating against square holes." ! I have seen a lot of pretty Smash books made with Square holes. I just prefer, for me, to have more room because once I start putting in my treasures in the book I get thick books. I can adjust sizes better with round holes. The square holes your type of coil you use can be limiting and hard to remove when you need to alter your book.

Hope that helps.

I have the bind it all squareish holes and I recently bought the cinch with round holes for $20 on Craigs. Love them both. I do like the cinch a lot. I love having two options.

Great ideas and thoughts, I do have a bind it all, but it is harder to use. But, now that you've made me remember that it has square holes, it makes it easy for me to decide! I think I will get the Cinch with the round holes, it's about $20 less on Amazon so that is good.

I have both machines. I like them both! The Cinch may have a tiny advantage in that I find it easier to use and I sometimes like using eyelets (which need the round holes).

I have the Cinch and love it. Just came across this thread. It's been a week...so what did you end up getting?

I found a Cinch at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon. It has round holes, I have a Bind it All with square, but I've never used it much. I like the round because I can put eyelets on the wholes and I think that would really dress up an album. In the end it really came down to what was available and affordable, the new square Cinch is too expensive right now, and there weren't any to be found locally.
