Default Cheap blending sponges & handle

This thread got me to thinking about an inexpensive way to have blending sponges and handles with what I have on hand which reminded me of how I use a cork for a handle on my cloud stencil.

I used a circle Mover and Shaper die to cut circles from $ store makeup sponge. I could get 3 1" circles from 1 makeup sponge. If you don't have a thick circle die you can always just trace a circle and cut it out. I attached velco to the sponge and a small cork. I also tried cut n' foam and it works the same it just costs more. I had a bag of sponges but I imagine you could cut a wine cork in half and it would work just fine.

So far it's working just fine. My velco was self-adhesive and it may not hold. If that happens I'll just glue the Velcro to the sponge and the cork with Beacons or zip dry.

So if you have some corks and spend a little money on Velcro and makeup sponges you could have a lot of sponges and handles for only a few cents each.

Stamphappy, you are one smart cookie! I've got a bag of corks ready and waiting. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my, brilliant!

BTW, I've noticed some make-up sponges are quite soft and others are firmer. So squish them through the bag to be sure you get what you want. I don't use them a lot, but prefer the softer ones.

I like the softer ones also. You know I could never blend with just a makeup sponge as I always get hard lines but this seems to be working.

Covington Crafter - thanks! sometime I can be smart and then other times it's like I have a brain full of minions that are completely out of control LOL

For handles I use some old empty wooden spools. You could probably use the newer plastic ones also. You can buy circles of just the hook side of velcro at office depot. You can glue these on or staple them. They have been working fine for me so far.

Have you tried the egg shaped cosmetic sponges? They seem to hold up better than the wedges that have a tendency to leave crumbly bits behind. In addition they blend colors nicely.

I saw this a while back on the Frugal Crafter. She shows a lot of way to make your own blending tools. I like the ones that she does with the makeup sponges and plastic bottle caps but I think you could get PVC pipe and cut it and do the same thing...
