I just got off the phone with Sizzix customer service. The Big Shot will work with Cuttlebug folders and Quicktuz dies!
I guess I'll be selling my Cuttlebug!

Yes. I have used the regular dies, thin cuts and the embossing folders in my CB. But the embossing folders need the BISK (Big impressions starter kit) that they do not sell anymore. There may be something out there to replace it, but I have the BISK so I don't know.

See this thread for more info

I have a BigKick, so I hope I can just get the dies, without buying the whole new machine!! Its the same, just a different name than the BigShot.

Check out this thread . Cat put together a really nice chart showing what brands fit in the Cuttlebug and how to do the sandwich stacks. It includes Sizzix.

Question

As a person who doesn't have any manual cutting system, I am wondering if this is worth the hefty investment. I have a Xyron Personal Cutter (and was considering working on a cricut for x-mas) and almost all of my customers have Cricuts.
Is there really a need to spend that much for another cutter, especially one that only cuts one size?
For demo purposes, I can't see any of them buying another cutter, since they are cricuted.

Any input?

I was just looking on the ProvoCraft/Cuttlebug website at a PDF. It lists the compatibility of the different dies out there and looks like the CB will accept the BigKick/BigShot. It also has the correct sandwich needed to use these. I'm pretty sure this is the same info that comes in the CB instructions. Hope this helps.

I think this is the bag we can get with the Big Shot. I found it on the Sizzix website.

I have the orginal sizzix, the big red machine and a cuttlebug. I think I'll be putting one of them on ebay. I never really use the sizzix so it'll be the one to go. I just recently bought the cuttlebug. Is the big shot basically the same thing? Just curious. I know a lot of my customers will buy it if they see it through SU.

I have a Big Shot and I've used a Cuttlebug. I LOVE the BS! It just feels soo much more sturdy! My friend with the CB has gone through several cutting plates and I haven't yet. Nestabilities work great in the BS too. I can use any CB product in the BS. Yes, you can use BS products in the CB, the embossing plates, etc. (My friend has them with her CB). I'm not positive if you can use the dies that are called Big Cuts (I think that is what they are called). I'm pretty sure you can, but not pos. They are pretty thick. Whenever I've used the cuttlebug I was afraid I was going to break it! No worries with the BS though! The footprint of the BS is bigger than the CB, but I'm still very happy with it. I've had it for nearly 2 years, I think.

I have had a Big Shot for quite awhile and haven't found anything from another company that you can't use in it so far. It's a wonderful die cut machine. The CB embossing folders work great.

At the time the Big Shot first came out, Sizzix was being bought out by Ellison who at the time made the Big Kick, essentially the same machine. THere were some color differences because of the two companies involved. Mine Big Shot is red and white just like the Sizzix and I got it when it first came out. Of course now, they are coming out with the fully automatic machines so there is no hand cranking and all these will be obsolete!!!

I have the big Kick and love it. I'm glad we are getting exclusives dies but since I'm a hobby demo I won't be buying a new big shot just to have the Stampin Up one.

I works for all dies and embossing folders I have tried.

I want to know what kinds of Big Shot Sizzix dies? BigZ, Originals, Sizzlits, Embosslits, Clearlits and the border Sizzlits? Sixxlets and Embosslits will work in the SideKick.I have also been able to cut Fun Foam with a sizzlitin the SideKick. BigZ will only work in the Big Shot. They have just recently released an even Bigger Bigz dies that you will need large plate for cutting these. They have a onesie that is the size of a folded card. Everything else will work in the old Sizzix machine. Embosslits are so amazing because they cut and emboss at the same time!
I have a Big Shot. DH got me for Christmas 2 years ago from Costco for under $60.00, including shipping. I have tired both the Cuttlebug and the Big shot and I agree with JHRR aka Julie Ebersole. I think the Big Shot is a better machine! It is much sturdier than the CB and It just plane works better and can do more and take more pressure than the CB.
If you want to use Brass stencils in your machine you can get the Texturz Starter kit it is the same as the BISK that Sizzix no longer makes. You can also use the Fiskars texture plates when you have the the Texturz starter kit.
Check out the links that Joan B and others have posted. These will help give you lots of information and you will be glad you did. You can also go to www.sizzix.com and sign up for their Tuesday Teasers and other sales!
Enough for now! Can't you see how much I all things Sizzix!! Now I have a marriage of my favorite paper crafting SU! & Sizzix!!!

I just posted this in the Day 3 News & Chatter Thread. I thought this might answer some of your questions about the Big Shot. As you can see I love SU! I Sizzix!!

ok here is something interesting I just ran accross from the provocraft Q&A section....

CUTTLEBUG:
Jennifer asked if Cuttlebug is wide enough to fit the new’ Bigz’ dies for the Sizzix ‘Bigkick’ machine. Yes, they fit the Cuttlebug just fine and dandy, they are the same size as the large red steel rule dies. As far as we can tell it’s only the name that is different. Oh, by-the-way the Cuttlebug is 5.78 inches wide, so we’re talking anything just below 6 inches.

Speaking of the large red die (steel rule) and now, apparently, the new ‘Bigz’ dies – especially to Sue,
the sandwich would be: (bottom to top) ‘B’ plate > paper > die, blade up (if it's down it might be hard to run through) > ‘B’ plate.
Noralee recommends using the two ‘B’ plate/mats for the large sizzix dies. And also remember to cut with the blade up.

What I found interesting...was that the Bigz WILL work in the CB as long as the width is less than basically 5 3/4" wide - however it looks like the two LONG speciality SU BigZ dies are 6" across (6x 13 3/4) so they probably will not fit in the CB at all - the other Bigz ones are 6" x 5 1/2 so they should fit just fine in the CB

I understand exactly what you are saying. I too, feel the same way. I have a Cricut that I love and I just sold all of my Sizzix dies and machine on eBay. The beauty of the Cricut is, well, you can cut one thing in many different sizes. I felt as though my projects were limited by the Sizzix manual machine.

I like embossing folders - I have a cuttlebug. But I can't see spending $200 plus dollars on something that doesn't seem to offer a lot of options.

Am I looking at this all wrong as well??

help help help!

i have a big shor and use it all the time. Its HUGE advantage is that it will cut chipboard, foam, felt and even thick fabric like vinyl and leather.

i actually have several of the new dies like the giant scallop sircle and the bird die.

My SIL bought the Cricut when it first came out - and she loves it. However, I challenged her to a duel creating boxes and scrapbook titles. I beat her on quickness, paper conservation and ease of use every time. She won on 'multiple sizes' but admits she typically uses the size that Sizzix offers.

That is not quite right. Ellison has always owned Sizzix. The Sizzix line was originally developed by Provo Craft & Ellison. Ellison bought Provo Craft out!
The development of the Big Shot took place during the lawsuits during the buyout. Then Provo Craft developed the Cuttlebug and then the Cricut.

I don't care if the machine will be obsolete I like that fact I am physically making my dies and stuff!

BTW some of your customers may have kept their manual systems, and might be interested in the SU dies...

Some of the BIGZ are too wide for the original Sizzix (but I kept old red, anyway).

I'm so glad I never got a die-cut system simply b/c it wasn't an SU item that I could use in workshops. Yippeeee, JUSTIFIED! I think I will definitely jump on this.

Well, I did get the cuttlekid just to appease my die cut desires. It cost me $15, hee hee.

Hey guys! I'm very excited about the Big shot announcement but I have a question... and, I'm posting this question on several threads because I don't know where to ask it... just a few weeks ago SU announced that beginning immeidately SU demos would get an extra 20% discount for all preview orders, I don't understand why the preview sale of the big shot is not included in this for all demos? Does anyone know?

I have a couple of the BIGZ dies and have run them through my CB with no problem. Kind of disappointing to realize that I won't be able to use all of them in it, though. WHY OH WHY did I start that financial diet???????????? I really want that starter kit!

Hmmmmmm.....if I say I can struggle through without the bag, maybe that'll be enough of a "compromise" to make it reasonable?? (Just tryin' that out for size in my mind here, lol)

Does anyone know?
That just covers new stamp sets (and the incolor bundle), not any of the accessories....

It's not a 20% additional discount on ALL preview orders, its a 20% additional discount on all rubber STAMP sets offered in previews. Hence why the level 3 bundle wasn't discounted. Not everything offered in the preview was discounted (including the scallop punch, card elements kit, etc.)

Sometimes SU will have specials only available for Convention attendees, this is probably the case. One of the advantages of actually attending the event.

I choose not to get the bag. As much as I liked it I can always get in later, but I'd rather have that money for stamps, dies, and paper.
