Palette icon Best Paper Cutter

Hello,

I used to be a demonstrator for Stampin' Up for a few years and I love the cutter that I still have. I was in the midst of cutting photo mats when I realized my dull blade was burring all of my cuts.

I was given two different sized Fiskars paper cutters. Is SU cutter superior enough to order a special part & pay shipping, or shall I just buy a new blade for my Fiskars cutter at the local craft store?

Many thanks!

SU has discontinued its old cutter and will be launching something new some time (don't know when); spare blades for the old SU cutter seem to be hard to get hold of. You might be better with the Fiskars for now, unless you get lucky and can find what you need for the SU one.

I saw in a post on the demo side that SU has announced that the new trimmer will be available before the end of the year, and is priced at $25. So you might want to wait and see what that is.

Since you're considering another brand, I just watched a video about the new Creative Memories paper trimmer. It looks awfully nice and has some features other trimmers don't have. I'm not a CM user - someone forwarded me the info, probably because she knows I'm a trimmer addict. (I use a Carl mostly, since it cuts multiples and paper is clamped down, plus a Fiskars and Tim Holtz to supplement.)

Thanks, Stampnnatter I am disappointed with SU. I was just on the site and at check out there was a 'replacement blade' link, which led to tools devoid of replacement blades. Thanks Fionna51 I will look into it then. I am making my cards and scrapbook now and debating getting replacements for my Fiskars which I am having to use. Thanks, bjeans. I will look into Creative memories~

The new CM trimmer does look nice but the $50 price tag made me hesitate to buy it. I've decided I can hang on to my current SU! trimmer until their new one is released. If I don't love it, and I will try to as I am very loyal to SU!, I will get the CM one for myself for Christmas.

I hear you (price). I don’t own much SU stuff, though very much like what I have. So I want the best trimmers, regardless of brand.

I liked the sliding “sight line” pieces to show cut location, nice if papers are scraps or uneven or there’s a specific place you want to cut, plus the white line to the side. Hard to explain, ugh, but in the video. I also like the replaceable cutting mat - my Carl has one - and the different blades like deckle, wavy, etc. I have dies and a punch with deckle edges but cutting any size I want would be great.

What I’m most curious about is whether there are measurements to the right of the blade - unusual in a rotary trimmer. It looks like it but I’m not sure.

Update. Do I admit I bought the new CM trimmer?

I’ll probably start a new thread to give impressions. Apparently CM has really listened to what people want and added some features that I haven’t seen before. It’s really nice and seems like a great supplement to my main cutter.

But if I was a big SU follower I’d probably wait to see what they came out with, since maybe they listened to what their people want too..

Yes, the price point on the CM trimmer is making me hesitate. I have a few Fiskars that can hold me over for a few. I am hoping to get SU trimmer soon. Is the CM a supplement cutter at that price?

I won’t be buying a SU trimmer. if someone is a SU demo, of course it makes sense to wait for it. If not, getting a trimmer that’s the type and with features one likes or needs works. The features on the CM one bring something new to the table (though dollars to donuts other companies will copy some) and are useful. (I also have a workhorse Carl cutter that cuts lots of paper at once and easily cuts through chipboard and glued layers.)
