Default ATG Tape Gun Questions?

I have seen all the wonderful reports on the ATG gun here on this site and I am getting ready to purchase it. Now that I am, I am seeing different styles and different tapes. What do you all commonly use? Do you have the one that used the 1/2" & 3/4" tape and just buy the adapter for the 1/4" or do you buy the 714 that uses on the 1/4' tape. Also as far as the refills, do you get the gold that is acid free or just the regular? Usually how long does a 36 yard refill last? Where is the cheapest place to buy the gun and refills?

I know this is a lot, but I live with an engineer, and it pays to do our research!

I use the 714..a friend of mine uses the 700 and we had to take it apart to use the adapter and 1/4" tape...it was a PITA!!! but if you are used to using wider tape then get the 700...I used the tape runner prior to the ATG and the tape runner was 1/4" wide...so I just went with the same width.

I only use the gold....the minimal extra expense doesn't matter to me since I do scrapbooking and crafting and never have to worry about what type of tape is on my gun....

I do a lot of stuff so I can have a refill last anywhere from 2 days (big swaps or intricate peicing) to a month.

The cheapest place to buy that I have seen is framingsupplies.com I get my refills in sets of a dozen or more to get the discount and their shipping is fast and reasonable.

I live with an engineer as well...I feel your pain!!

I also have and love the 714. I prefer a thin strip and if I need more I just add more!

I've got the 714 - figured if I needed a 1/2" strip of tape, I could put it down twice. I am still on my 1st roll, and I use tape like it's going out of style (cards with 3-6 layers, die cuts, making envelopes, etc.); so basically about 1.5 months use. I find myself more willing to make extra layers on cards and layouts because I know I'm not going to run out. As a comparison, I went through a two Tombow tape runners a month (granted, some of it was wasted because the stupid thing would bunch up and I would have to start again - so not an issue with ATG). I seem to recall someone doing a cost analysis for the ATG - might be worth searching if that is an issue.

I have the 714 too. I love it. I bought mine from armel company http://armelcompany.com/. They are a framing company here in MA. They are a little cheaper than framingsupplies. They do not list the prices on their webpage, you need to contact them for prices. I only buy the acid free gold, it is worth a few extra pennies. I scrapbook and make cards. The tape lasts a long time. Remember there is a lot on one roll. You have to get used to using less because it sticks well. I went with the thinner tape gun so I could use it on ribbon, etc and not have to worry about switching back and forth. You can just do 2 passes and get 1/2". I LOVE THIS TOOL! And I do not feel that way about many things.

How big is the tape gun? I can't seem to find measurements online.

I love my atg! I have the 714 and purchased it from framingsupplies.com. Since I started using this, my card layers do not come apart anymore.

It's about 9 1/2" square...but it's not square

it seems really large until you start using it...then it's actually quite managable......

I have the 714 gun and had problems with tape I ordered from framingsupplies.com because the tape rolls were warped and the tape kept coming off the rollers on the gun. When I complained to the company they just told me to contact 3M. I wasn't pleased with their customer service. I then began ordering my tape from www.bindingsource.com in Connecticut. Their tape rolls arrive completely flat, no warps--and my gun works fine. They ship promptly, respond right away to my e-mails, and have prices that are comparable to those on other websites. I love using this tape to attach 1/4 inch ribbon. I use the 969 tape because its high-tack. I purchase it in 36 yard rolls and they seem to last forever.

Default ATG Gun and Tape Starter Pack from bindingsource.com

....a bit more info for those who are ready to take the leap and purchase the gun and tape: www.bindingsource.com has a price of $55 for an ATG "starter pack". You get the ATG applicator for 1/4 inch tape, 72 yards of 1/4 inch 924 tape, and 36 yards of the 1/4 inch 969 (high tack) tape. If you're interested, go here and look at the 2nd item on the page--Starter Pack #5:

You gals are the best! You have answered my questions. I just ordered my 714 gun and four gold refills from framingsupplies.com. All these companies should really appreciate Splitcoast for all the recommendations to their sites.
Thanks again!

You will not regret your ATG purchase. This adhesive is simply remarkable, as well as economical!

I have the one that only uses 1/4 and I haven't really had a need for a bigger strip, and if I did I could just add more. This is so great. I have had it for about 2 months and still haven't changed the 1st roll of tape I put in. I could never say that with mono!

Since I also scrapbook, I really love the ATG. I actually went to a framing store in town to purchase the tape gun and a box of tape. I have the red 1/4' and love it.

Default HOW MUCH TAPE?

How much tape do you apply when using the ATG gun? Just corners, all four sides? I don't want to waste it, but want the layers to hold.
thanks,
Mary Ellen

The Binding Source has a starter kit for th 714 gun for $55.00 is this a better price than The Framing Supplies...I mean is is worth the extra for the tape that comes with it?

love my 714...as someone said earlier....it is easy to run a second line of adhesive if you need more. That has been rare for me as usually one line of 1/4" works just fine.

When ordering the 714 ATG gun from framingsupplies and ordering tape to use with it.....does it all come as one package?? Their shipping costs seem rather high......especially if the ATG gun and the tape need to be two separate packages. Could someone who has ordered these products please answer my question??? TIA

I ordered my 714 and the ATG Gold acid free tape from framing supplies. They ship the tape and the gun together. While the gun is pricey, the tape is very inexpensive compared to mono-adhesive. I ordered mine on a Wednesday and I had it on Saturday. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.
