If your main problem with the 6" wide Big Shot are some embossing folders that are only slightly too large going in "landscape", you can easily trim off the excess plastic folder edge without affecting the design. I have "customized" my plastic folders to do lots of things, and making adaptions for different directions and sizes opens lots of options.

Just wanted to say thank-you for this thread, especially Dina's and stamphappy1650's posts.
I wondered about this as a Christmas gift - but then my phone situation changed from "would quite like a new one" to "urgently need a new one", so I didn't follow it up. And what had me wondering at the time whether it was worth it or not was that I didn't want to end up feeling I "needed" to buy a lot of larger dies and folders to really get value from it. But I have quite a few 7x5 folders, and even knowing I can use them sideways makes me come off the fence (I hadn't even thought about that aspect till I read this thread!). Especially when I saw it this morning on Amazon.uk as a starter kit bundle with a few dies and extra stuff, down from 179 (price at Christmas) to 100. My birthday is next month - so as of this morning, DH has bought my present

Janet I sent you a private message with the tracking for your Big Shot Plus. It goes out to you tomorrow.

I purchased Big Shot Plus when my trusty Cuttlebug just didn't cut like it should any longer. One of the reasons I purchased the Big Shot Plus is the ability to use my larger embossing folders sideways.

I do have a question and maybe I'm not using the plates correctly but I've gone through several sets of plates already as they seem much more malleable and warp way easier than my Cuttlebug plates ever did. Is anyone else having this problem? Can the Cuttlebug plates be used in the Big Shot?

People have commented that Sizzix has changed their plates to a new supplier and they wear out quicker than the old ones. I only use my large newer style plates when I need to do something oversize and still use my old plates from my original Big Shot in the Big Shot Plus. Those plates are over five years old and they see a lot of use. They're just starting to crack along the edges now. The key to extending the life of any cutting plates is placing your dies all over the surface and not just in the center, and flipping your plates regularly. This will prevent warping. Some prefer to keep the top cutting plate with no cuts in it but I flip both of my clear cutting plates to a different combination and orientation every time I use the machine.

Others not happy with the newer plates have opted to go to a windshield repair store or even Hope Depot type stores and having plexiglass sheets cut to size. Apparently it is not very expensive and they are of a higher quality.
