Default Anyone compared stitched cuts using dies vs. Cameo?

Thanks to the internet, for months now I've been seeing great cards made with stitched dies -- and so I'm seriously thinking I "need" some! BUT I've also seen comments from crafters who do the stitched look using their digital cutters (Silhouette Cameo, Pazzles, Cricut, etc.).

I'm trying to tell myself I should just use my Cameo and do my own stitched die cutting... but if, like me, you own both dies and a Cameo, you know there's a difference between the results of the two. I love my Cameo, but physical dies give that slightly rounded edge where the die's blade "sinks its teeth" into the paper, if you know what I mean. It's a subtle difference but definitely noticeable. And I wonder if that's a major contributor to the nice look that the stitched dies have...

So my question is this: is there anyone out there who owns stitched dies AND a digital cutter, and has tried both ways for comparison?

I have tried it on the Cameo but did not like the results. Here's a video I found that shows how to create the look and the side by side comparison.

Thank you, Mary! That's a helpful video. It's handy to see the 2 end results side by side.

I have both. The dies through the big shot do the stitches by embossing. Whereas the Cameo slices it with a sharp blade.

There is a big difference between the two, which is why I bought the rectangle stitched nested dies.

I did start playing around with the Cameo and the stitched lines. If you make the line thicker, or do a stitch line but trace it and actually cut a small sliver out, then it is better looking. I used distress ink over the cut stitches and it picked up the ink much better.

Nothing compares to the embossed look though. Just like my Cam can cut out all the swirls and flourishes, but it still doesn't finish emboss like the Spellbinder ornate dies.

Thanks for that feedback, Janet1000. It makes complete sense. I think you and I were in agreement on another thread too about the difference between Cameo and dies -- love 'em both, but they excel at different things.

OK, time to buy some dies!
