I recently bought one, and suddenly got this idea in my head, so I'm wondering if anyone has done this with success or is it harmful to the machine or dies in some way? TFS any info!
I'm assuming I'd hafta use what they refer to as "Thick Cuts" for cutting through a material such as chipboard . . . yes?

I use my little sidekick to cut through the thick card that you find on the back of notepads etc....there are a couple of examples in my little gallery - ice cream cone and flower - I bet the bigger machine is even better with this as I use the "wafer thin" dies so there's not a lot of depth to the die itself. Just put it through slowly...you'll know if you are killing your machine.
I use my regular Sizzix with chipboard from Dick Blick all the time without any problems. No special preparation needed and the alphabets look awesome!
I noticed it's possible to buy medium thick chipboard by the package. How does this compare in thickness to the stuff I pull off the back of note pads and keep saving, thinkin' I'll figure out SOMETHING to do with it?
I have a feeling I'm gonna wanna make LOTS of my own chipboard shapes . . . using my Big Shot with all the info you girls are sharing!!!
This is my round-about way of saying, I may run out of these notepad backings and am wondering if this pre-packaged stuff will work as well or is it too thick?????
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

I don't have the answer to this question because my husband brought me home huge stacks of chipboard from work. He works in corporate purchasing so there is always plenty of it around. I have enough to probably last me a year! lol
Just like its name implies, Thick Cuts dies cut thick stuff. These premium-quality, low-price dies cut the way you want quickly and precisely. Whether its cardstock, felt, fabric, foam, magnet, leather, craft aluminum or thousands of other materials, Thick Cuts are always the right tool for the right job. For use with Big Shot machine only.
A sizzix type press, cutter, will do it, for sure...That is why I got rid of my zip e mate and the roller style cutting... more and more impressed with the original sizzix all the time...
Check with your local print shop or at an office max/depot. It is something they need to package some orders and may consider selling it inexpensively by the sheet. I know my local print shop uses it in both the 11"x17" and 8 1/2" x 11" sizes. Just an idea...as I've never asked for any myself.
Not sure how much you were looking for but, I've purchased chipboard from this place before (split it with a few different people). I would suggest the 0.04 to 0.05 thickness. You can request samples so you know for sure the difference in sizes.
Thanks so much, everybody! I'm always afraid I'm gonna break something if I don't ask a few questions first. My Big Shot Starter Kit came with a Thick Cut, and I tried it on the chipboard I've saved from the backs of notepads and it worked so awesome!!! I'm bouncin'!!!
Methinks I'm gonna spend a butt-load on dies . . . yikes!!!!

Julie,
I used mine on chip board and it works great. I am so addicted to that thing. Oh, BTW, great card on your blog! I love Halloween cards and now you got me thinking I should be stamping some! I don't know if sizzix dies work with the big shop but they are all 50-60% off right now because they are changing their logo so they are selling off the old logo stuff on their website.
Maybe someone on here knows if you can use the regular sizzix dies with the bigshot. If so, go to www.ellison.com and click on crafters- sizzix. If you need a coupon, I'll go try to find my code and post later.
Have fun!

I have my Big Shot on order and now I really can't wait for it to get here!!!! Please share any bargains you find on dies 'cuz I think I'm gonna need some!
Oh you bad...bad.. bad enablers! I've been thinking about the Big Shot for a while now, Okay, drooling about it, and I hope to get it as soon as September gets here! In my TAC catty it says, "It works 100% with your current Sizzix product Library." So, I'd say yes, it does work with Sizzix...yikes! My purse is slowly sliding across the floor to hide under the table out of sight!
I want to get the Hinges and latches one - pretty much only because of the cute little thing in the Papercrafts this month - the halloween menu thingy with a handle. Anyway, darn it that I hear that Big Shot is good!
Guess I'll have to take the cans in for some die-cuts!
I just used my silent eyelet setter to burrow a hole through my circle chipboard (I'm making a card for someone), and it was simple as pie. I thought this little tidbit might be helpful for those of us on SCS that don't have a Big Shot yet!
I cut several pieces of thick chipboard (thicker than SU!) from Hobby Lobby using my Big Shot and Sizzix Dies. Works great. Perfect cut every time. It will also work with the regular Big Shot dies but not the Sizzilets or the thin Big Shot Dies. Wonderful machine.
I ordered my Big Shot and a whole bunch of dies through Ohio Scrapbooks. Always 30% off, and shipping is free over $100. They carry both Sizzix and Ellison designs, so lots to choose from! They'll email you the catalog (but please note the file is pretty large, so plan to download your email overnight if you're on dial up.). http://www.ohioscrapbooks.com/
I have even die cut Bainbridge 2000 Illustration Board - that stuff is really thick! But I have the original Sizzix and so I'm not certain if the Big Shot would work the same. The dies certainly can handle the heavier "boards" Off to check out that sale - I have so many dies, but a girl can ALWAYS use more - LOL!
Thanks!
And just for the record...I just took and die cut through mat board...so go to the nearest frame shop and ask them if they have any scraps...they are perfect for using in your die cut machines! just do the whole "press thing" twice before removing it from the macine... ;)
Okay, so now I "need" to find some good deals on dies. I went to Joann's and Michael's today with my 40% off coupons but their selection was way down and picked over. I did find some doll hair on clearance for $2 but can't seem to find any bodies. So, I came home to look on Creative Xpress and their site is down due to a hacker????? Found lots of great things on the Ellison/Sizzix site but the ones I want aren't on sale........is it an omen??? Am I not suppose to shop for these now?
Sign up at the Sizzix website for their newsletter!! They are constantly have 40% off sales...that's how I stock up!! And sadly, I keep buying but they have so many cute designs coming out. Glad I've been saving all that "stiff" board thinking I'd do something with it!!

Thanks for that link! I'll definitely go take a peek!
Someone else, a looong while back, mentioned another place that makes dies that can be used in the Sizzix. They had a mini gable box die that was bigger than the Big Shot's mini gable box (so miniscule, that only a truffle would fit into it, if that, chuckle!). It was about the size of the pre-due cut mini gable boxes that SU! had carried . . .
Does anybody recall that site addy?

You might want to hold off on Creative express...not sure if they have it all under controll, but they were hacked...and trying to clean up the mess..there is a thread about it here somewhere...

Julie,
I just ran across a link for www.cross-cuts.com They have some unusual (but expensive) dies. Their gable box doesn't really look any larger though. I'd be interested in some larger boxes also.

Thanks for that link. I couldn't remember it to save my life!
OUCH! They really are quite spendy! :(
That's too bad. I do think their mini gable box is considerably bigger than the Big Shot's--the dimensions of the box listed there indicate that it would be comprable in size to SU!'s die cut mini gable boxes, so that's a plus . . . I just gotta determine if I wanna pay their price . . .
I saw the Big Shote die cut boxes at CHA and they were adorable, but too tiny to really hold much of anything--mebbe a chocolate kiss at best!

I see now that there is more than one. The one I looked at was the compact die for Sizzix and it measures 2 1/4 X 1 3/4 X 3 finished size. The standard dies are quite a bit larger but will they fit the Big Shot? It says "Standard works with the Accucut and Ellison Die cutting machines". Hmmmmmmmm.....I think I will contact them to find out.
It cuts all kinds of wonderful things - if you go to my blog you can see a myriad of things I have punched through. Yes - we are enablers aren't we? LOL!
