wood frames
 

I am making some altered wood frames. I am using adhesive spray to adhere cardstock/patterend paper to the wood. Must I apply modge podge or another spray on top of the paper? I have used podge podge in the past to adhere the paper and didn't like the result. Anyone who has experience let me know. Can I just put the paper on and leave it like that? :confused:I am doing these for a boutique this weekend!

To answer your question, I would say you need to seal it. You can use a very very thin coat of modge podge, or you can try a spray sealer. But I would definately seal it. I think sealed projects look better then non-sealed, ecspecially when you're selling them, it looks more professional. If you have used modge podge in the past and didn't like it, you may want to use the spray sealer (can be bought at most craft stores) because it will give a thinner, less noticable look.

Not only does sealing it give a better look, it also protects the paper and makes sure the paper stays down. You don't know the conditions of where your art will be displayed so if it's humid, the paper could lift off the frame.

Well, here's a differing opinion. :) I've made some altered frames with those cute little square frames they sell for $1 at AC's and Mike's. (These are flat frames so there is no issue of trying to stick the paper into grooves.) I ran the paper through my Xyron and used a brayer to make sure there was good contact with the frame. After sanding and inking the edges, that paper was down to stay. After embellishing, I liked the look of them "au natural" with the different textures of the papers and the ribbons, etc rather than with a layer of sealer over the whole thing.

So that I can recieve emails on this thread, I also wanted to know if I should seal some of my projects. It's easier to just bump than go to the top & subscribe to this thread...just another way of doing it.

The last few - well, ten or so - frames that I made, I used spray adhesive to adhere the paper on and did not use anything to seal it and I think they look great and they have held up well. I also used the little one or two dollar frames from Joann's or Mikes. I will try to find a picture of one of them to post.

I'm trying to add a photo - not the best one but the only one on the computer at the moment. Was a father's day gift...
