Please help if you are using Nestabilities w/ Big Shot!
Hi,
Got my oval set in the mail today and am trying to get them to work in my Big Shot. I have read all of the info on Nichole and Ellen's blogs, as well as threads from this board. However, I cannot get them to emboss. I do NOT have the multi-purpose platform; I do have both the tan Wizard embossing mats and the impressions pad and sheet of silicone rubber from Ellison, as seen here: http://www.sizzix.com/shop.cfm?funct...mNumber=654376.
I am really hoping that I don't have to purchase something else to make this work, but if someone tells me that the multi-purpose platform is going to solve all of my problems, then I am all for it!
I finally got the Nestabilities to cut by placing both of the tan mats underneath the acrylic mat, on top of the thick white platform. However, when I take the tan mats away and try to emboss, I get nothing!
Please help me learn to emboss, since that is really the only reason I purchased these! Plus, I have the complete rectangle set on the way too. I really want to love these, KWIM?
Nevermind, after breaking my acrylic plate, I finally figured it out. Now I have to go to Michael's tomorrow and buy more plates. But thankfully, it works!
Please share how you got this to work properly. I have the scalloped ovals on order and also have the big shot without the multi platform too, so I'd appreciate any tips!
TIA
Hi,
I do have the wizard tan embossing pads, so that is how I got it to work. My sandwich to CUT was in this order:
1) thick white block that came with original Big Shot
2) 2 tan wizard embossing mats
3) acrylic plate
4) Nestabilities Die, ridged side UP
5) cardstock
6) acrylic plate
To EMBOSS:
I removed the 2 tan embossing pads from between the thick white block and the first acrylic plate and put them between the cardstock and 2nd acrylic plate. Sandwich:
1) thick white block
2) acrylic plate
3) die, ridged side up
4) cardstock
5) 2 tan embossing pads
6) acrylic plate
Just wanted to amend the cutting sandwich:
instead of using 2 tan wizard mats on top of the thick white block, just use one. I broke another acrylic plate using 2.

These are the sandwiches that I have been told work in the Big Shot. These might work better for you.
Big Shot
(cutting)
1) White platform
2) Clear acrylic mat
3) Spellbinder spacer plate
4) Spellbinder die, cut side up
5) paper/cardstock
6) Clear acrylic mat
(embossing)
1) White platform
2) Clear acrylic mat
3) Spellbinder die with cut paper/cardstock in the die
4) TWO pieces Spellbinder tan polymer
5) Clear acrylic mat
I do not have a Big Shot, so I can not actually try these. But these come from a very reliable source.
Hope this helps,

I agree that this recipe works best with my Big Shot....I have used lots of paper, replaced plates to show for it...I would say that it is a challenge but it will work and the results are worth it.

The multipurpose platform is really worth the money. You might be able to get it at a discounted price at Ellison.com.
I was able to emboss a shape today using the lowest level of the platform, the Nestability die with the paper still in it, the Sizzix purple rubber embossing thingy, and the Sizzix purple embossing mat over it all.
I also was able to use the magnetic mat. I flipped to the second level (b--I think), clear cutting mat, two sheets of cardstock, the die face up, the cardstock/paper to be cut, clear cutting mat.
I have a Big Shot..I replaced my cutting mats (clear acrylic) today and then only needed one of the polymer mats for embossing. I have been pleased with the results...My old mats were really marred and now everything is much crisper. Be willing to try several different ways...don't force the sandwich...you may be replacing your mat sooner than later.
The Spellbinder spacer plate...there is a set of 2, I got mine from Ellen Hutson but Spellbinders carry them. You can also get the silicone mats and the magnetic pad. I would say the the plates and the pads are the best.
Good luckD!
