Will you "critique" my Prisma technique...please.
 

I just got my pencils & baby oil the other day and have been practicing. The shadowing is really hard to get. I think on this image I did it on the wrong side. :confused:

Would really appreciate any suggestions you might have for changes that would help me get the effect I want. I see so many great cards on here and I really want to learn this technique.

That's great. Wow! The only suggestion I have is to have some of the bed have lighter spots on them. Just a tiny bit more variation.

Your picture looks good. I've been shading lightly with my darker color for shadows and running another color over the top of it. Your bucket is perfect as far as the shading goes. You have a light side toward the source of light, with the shadow opposite. Carry the idea of the source of light a little further into the picture. When your eyes leave the dark side of the bucket it should pick up a lighter color from the bed. The next time you are outside look to see were the sunlight hits an object. The top edge of the pig's trough could have been lighter, as that's where the light would strike it, but the bottom edge of the quilt might have been darker. If you can't distinquish which object is lighter or darker, it helps to squint your eyes to cut out some of the light. With practice you will be able to discern the lighter or darker object immediately. When you shade with the darker color don't end the area of color abruptly, instead feather it out to a softer edge. I haven't tried using baby oil so I'm not sure how the coloring moves around, with the OMS it moves like warm butter. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the great input. :p This technique is harder than you think it would be. At least for me anyway. It's the shading/shadowing that I can't quite figure out. I wish there was an art class in my area just on this technique. :D I keep going back and looking at others work that I admire and trying to figure out what they did.

I have a couple of suggestions for you. Basically I think that you did a super job! I agree that you did the bucket correctly for shading. You might consider adding some pillow shading near the bottom of the pillow to show that it is behind the pig. If it was mine, I'd also give the pig a little more shading under his chin and maybe a little more color in his face. To finish it off, you can add some shading 'off' the image to show some shadow.
