Default Can You Cut Fabric With A Cricut?

I searched the forum and didn't find any threads about this subject.

I just got my Cricut yesterday. So far, I'm happy about how it's working. I was telling my boss (who quilts) about my new toy and she wondered if it cuts fabric. I'm not willing to put my machine at risk by trying this before I've even had it a day, so I figure I would ask here.

Can you cut fabric in a Cricut? What about fabric that has had fusible webbing ironed on the back of it?

TIA

You can cut fabric as long as it is thin enough to stick to the mat. With that said I have used repositional spray adhesive (I use elmers) to help hold it in place. Some fabrics cut better than others, you just have to play with them to give them a try. Also if you use the center point feature it helps.

I have never tried the Cricut, but I've cut lots of fabric with my Big Shot. I wouldn't trust the fabric to stay in place, or the blade to be sharp enough to cut the fibers. I really can't see the Cricut cutting something like felt, which the Big Shot or Cuttlebug would do with ease.

Here is a link to a blanket that used cricut cut fabric. There are lots of other examples on the cricut mb's. Take a look while you are there. It will also cut vinyl with ease.
