I read tons of reviews on trimmers, and ended up purchasing the Tonic Guillotine trimmer AND for portability, the V-Blade trimmer. Love the first item. However the V-Blade trimmer I am having problems with and wonder if anyone here can help?
I have already tried emailing the company. I got several responses - but no one was able to tell me how to use it properly - or if I got a defective product. I have purchased a new pack of 3 blades in case the blade was bad. But every single cut I try, I get the worst ragged cut edge! On any thickness of paper from copy paper to card stock.
I keep thinking I am missing something or not doing something right... does anyone have any suggestions?

I got one too after seeing/hearing it was the Bee's Knee's... yea umm... NOT!!! I had a problem with the very end of the cut and usually ONLY when I did NOT really have the finger guard push down bar thingie all the way down, YES you HAVE TO use both spots and push down on them... I hate mine due to my being measurement challenged and it not being the easiest of them to read.... Hope this helps, push down completely on teh clear guard thingie in BOTH SPOTS of the plastic thing!
Hi Kelly and Betsy, Thanks for your comments Kelly. Actually- the guillotine trimmer works perfect and I love that one!
The TOnic V-Blade trimmer is a sliding cutter - kind of like the purple Fiskars trimmer (I used to have). But I cannot get a clean cut on the edge no matter what I do.
Haven't had good response from company now either. So very frustrating. I was just hoping someone on SCS had a V-Blade and could advise or confirm they too had problems with it. I got it after reading a lot of reviews on trimmers, and Holtz also recommended that one. It is supposed to be much more portable than guillotine cutters and also it scores.
Guess I should just give it up - and chalk it up to a total loss. Think I will just replace my purple Fiskars (the measurements wore off the old one!). I mainly use it for scoring esp since I got the Tonic Guillotine 12 inch cutter.
Hoping someone else might have experience with this v-blade though. I can't imagine how a product could be so bad right out of the package when Tonic as a company usually has had a good reputation. I was surprised and disappointed.
I had one and sold it. Mine would just cut all wonky. I use my trusty ol' Fiskars triple track for portability and I have a tabletop for home. Sorry. My experience was like yours. :(
Mine is a couple of years old, but I never had problems with it...til TSA got ahold of it.
I took a trip, and it was in my luggage. When I got home, it was OUT of the Iris box, I had a note that TSA had searched my luggage, and it was wonky after that. Floating around in my suitcase, the arm ripped off, and it's cut a bit off ever since.

LMAO!! We must be peas in a pod... Mine is stored in the garage (guillitine one) and then got talked into a Carl Cutter, HATE IT!!!! I cant see to measure... so the purple extend the arm Fiskars it is for me!!!
I guess I will be the lone voice of dissent on this post.Approximately 15 months ago I was looking for suggestions here, for a 12 inch trimmer and found a previous post that someone had asked the same question.
The posts were OVERWHELMINGLY in favor of two trimmers Carl and Tonic, I checked them out and purchased the 12" tonic vblade trimmer. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!!!. It cuts beautifully after all this time ,and I love that it also has cms on it as well as inches.
This year I wanted to purchase some extra blades to have on hand as well as I thought I should have an extra scoring blade. The LSS had the cutting blades but not the scoring blade. In fact they were having trouble finding a distributor that carried the scoring blade ,and called the company regarding my enquiry.
Tonic told the store that I was to contact them and they would send me out a new scoring blade. I sent them an email ,and received not one.... but two new blades for free a week later.
I would certainly contact the company and see if they can help.
I thought the service was very good and stand behind the product.
I have purchased items in the past that turned out to be duds when others praised them, so I think its possible to have this happen at anytime with any product. The true test is whether the company when contacted will stand behind their product. This company has.
I do not work for the company and purchased mine in a LSS in the U.S. on holiday last year. It was on my return winter vacation this past month when I got my new blades.
