What about Scissors?
We all have them. How do you care for them?
i clean mine with goo gone and alcohol when needed and that does the job just fine.. Here's an article regarding care. https://www.marthastewart.com/152300...ingtips_201905 |
I cut sticky stuff all the time so adhesive remover is essential. I stock up on Westcott scissors when I see them on sale for $3 for general use. If the blades get dull or nicked, out they go. I have one pair dedicated to ribbon only and another to fabric only.

I use goo gone to clean them and then simple green.
I use the same thing Martha does to sharpen them. I don't have good enough ones worth sending in for pro sharpening. I have to say I was very disappointed with the TH ones that are supposed to be coated so stuff does not stick to it. Cutting cling from jump always stuck to it. Not a big deal. |
A few years ago I found the best scissor set for my purposes at Ross, 5pc including 9" blades, for $2.99. After a good cleaning when needed they cut like brand new. I recently picked up another set as a back up.

Every art session when I clean up I clean my scissors with alcohol and then I sharpen them. I use to work in a fabric department. Every night we would sharpen our scissors. Ever since then I have done the same for my own scissors. My scissors are super sharp & have never failed me. I have scissors that are thirty years old.

If they get sticky on them, I use goo gone rubbed on with a paper towel and they are like new.

I use Avon Skin So Soft to clean the sticky off my scissors. Quite a few years ago, they had individual sss towelettes, and I find I can use one for years. Yes, years. I rub the sticky off the blades, then remove the residue with clean paper towels. If I think they still might be oily, I clean them again with stamp cleaner and paper towels. While I like my CutterBees, my go to pair is embroidery scissors of my mom's. I've never had to sharpen any scissors, wouldn't know how to do it.

Alcohol cleans scissors just great, takes off everything. I keep the tiny wipes in my desk, so easy and quick, open a packet and swipe!

I use meths to remove sticky bits from scissors and other cutting blades, and occasionally a whetstone to sharpen what's dull.

You can get it cheaper at your craft store or WalMart. Hope that helps. |
