Default OTT light question

I'm wanting to invest in an OTT light. We are going to be moving into a newer home and my stamping area is going to be in the basement. I know that the lighting will be an issue, so I was thinking an OTT light would help. Is this what you ladies would suggest? Can you also suggest which type you have? I looked on a website and there were so many different ones! Is a desktop one sufficient? Any information or opinions would be appreciated, I dont know much about these OTT lights at all. I think that Michaels sells them, anywhere else I could look? Thanks ladies/men!!!

Michaels and Hobby Lobby both sell them. I would wait until I got into the new house and determine how much extra lighting I needed before I purchased anything. Most often a desktop with concentrated beam will be sufficient. Go buy one, take it home and check it out for a few days-at different times of day, that's the best way to determine.

I would get one with the highest wattage possible. It truely makes a difference. I have 2 desk lamps (13 w each) and a floor lamp (24 w). So very happy with my purchases!!!

I forgot - I got my desk lamps at Office Depot (about $25 each) and the floor lamp from Joann.com when they were having a 1/2 price sale and it was about $100.

The 'bonus' of the desk lamps - 4 usb posts for the computer, 2 phone jacks and one 3 prong electrical plug. They also came in blue, white, silver and I think black.

I recently bought an OTT-lite - 50% off sale at Joanns. I bought the goose-neck table-top model. It will stand in a base (included) or clamp on to the side of a table. I had originally bought a different model where the angle of the lamp was adjustable by thumb screws. But I took that one back because I couldn't tighten the thumb screws enough to keep the top of the lamp from falling down. When I read the reviews on Joanns.com, turns out many people reported that problem. The goose-neck one had great reviews.

All that being said, I haven't used it for card-making yet. I have it clamped on the end table next to the couch to work on my cross stitch and it is marvelous. HTH

I'm not a name brand person and looked for other alternatives to the Ott lights, which are so expensive, even on sale.

I found a great floor lamp, full spectrum daylight type, at Big Lots for $29.00. It even came with a bulb installed, and an extra bulb in the package.

I have been very pleased with it.
