Default help! Blade housing on Cricut won't go down...

I see there are over 1,000 pages here so I am starting a new thread rather than go past 250! I have been searching for 2 days and can't figure this problem out.

I have tried to reset about 20 times, unplugged the thing, cussed like a sailor, got on my knees and prayed, gave up finally and starting drinking wine and has a nice conversation with it, but nothing is working.

Here's the problem: to get the new blade and new mat to cut I literally have to put my finger on the arm that holds the blade housing.

When I unload, I have to change the depth dial to 1 or the blade will cut my paper upon the unload process.

I have tried stacking pennies--no luck.
I have tried every setting--no luck
I have tried holding it down during the cutting--some luck.

Does anybody know if the thing has died? I did buy it the first week they came out back in 2006 (?).

A little more research and only one posting to say the spring may have come off...disassembled the housing and the spring is still on. These are the days I wish I had taken shop class...oh yeah, back when I was a teen girls couldn't take shop!

The funeral will be Monday at 3:00.

I don't know if it died, but a call to Customer service is in order. Maybe someone else can help you?

My friend had this same problem. She called PC cs and they ended up sending her a new blade housing. It works fine now. Hope you get some resolve.

OH I hope they do!

Funny thing is that my sister's MIL called to tell me that she bought me a 'Cree cut' ( she says it just like that!). I have no idea what size but it should get here Monday I think...how coinkydinky is that? It was totally out of the blue.
