I am a new owner of some SU stampin spots! I was using them tonight with some new acyric stamps. But the image came out in dots! I kept cleaning the stamp but it kept happening (however it worked when I used a $2 dye ink from Walmart!!). This also happened a few weeks ago, I used an acylic stamp (again brand new) with a stampin up dye ink (my friends ink, not a new ink pad) and the image came out in spots. We thought there was something wrong with the stamp until it happened again today!
Is this something with SU ink? Does it only work with rubber? Or is it the stamps being new?

Anyone experience this?
Thanks!!
Most likely it's your stamps being new. I rub an art eraser over the stamps to remove the residue from the manufacturing process. Another thing you can do is use chalk ink for the acrylic stamps. You won't get the beading effect. Hope this helps!
I find that SU dye-based inks don't work well with my acrylic stamps, either. Some dye inks work, and some don't. Pigment and chalk inks work better. I've tried sanding the stamps, "conditioning" them, etc. That doesn't help me. Putting a cushion underneath your paper helps somewhat.
I almost always use SU classic inks and they work great with all of my Papertrey stamps, as well as my misc. sets (mainly Verve Visual and My Favorite Things). For outlines I use Versafine onyx black with no problems. I find that for solid stamps I have to ink them up really well (ink, then change positions slightly, ink again), than hold the stamp in place for a few seconds when it's on the paper. (This also works well for rubber stamps.) Oh, and I do wipe them a bit before using them the first time. And sometimes they look blotchy at first but the color evens out as it dries. Hope this helps.
I have experianced that same problems you are having. This is my theory: SU dye inks are waterbased. The waterbase is what makes it bead up. Not all dye inks are waterbased though. For my clear stamps I use water proof dye inks, my favorites are the Whispers set. When I use those the impressions come out clear and just fine.
I use SU! dye inks quite a bit with a variety of different clear stamps. The lighter the ink color (like soft subtles) the more the ink tends to bead. Rubbing your stamps gently with an eraser and stamping with them several times on scratch paper will usually help them accept the ink better. And the more you use the stamps, the more evenly they will stamp. One trick I learned for any of the colors that seem to bead, is to ink up the stamp with VersaMark ink first and then ink it with the dye ink. It usually gives me much better ink coverage.

Will using versamark first ruin the stamp pad as it will have versamark on it? Thanks!
I use versa magic for my acrylics. I have both classic and craft SU pads and it doesn't work well. The classic bleeds out so the stamp outlines aren't defined and the craft has too much ink, so I have to stamp it a few times on scrap paper. I like versa magic and cats eye. It really makes a big difference.
