I thought I had heard there were several colors that had a different formula.
there were several that had different formula, with the new foam pad but it was the old shouldn't be used on the new. all those colors are retired now anyway.
I've done a lot of research on this, and here's what I know... Most ink refills can still be used with foam ink pads, but there are a few colors to be wary of:
Basic Black
Perfect Plum
Tempting Turquoise
If you have a foam pad in one of these colors, it is advised to use refills manufactured after 2012. Linen pads are nice in that even though they are older, they can take any of the ink formulas and I have never experienced any issues. Hope this helps!
There was 5 that wont work, one was a gray but dont recall the 5th one, sorry

When SU! switched from the linen pads to the firm foam pads, these color formulas were no longer compatible and the old re-inkers could not be used on the new foam pads:
Tempting Turquoise Marina Mist Perfect Plum Basic Gray Basic Black
All of these colors have since retired with the exception of Basic Black.
