Default Cuttlebug "B" plate

I have had the worst luck with the cuttlebug "B" plate. I have had it crack, break into two different pieces, and have even had a piece shoot across the room. This is while doing the die cuts. If I am embossing.....I have no problem with the equipment.

I would like to know do you have problems with the "B" plate and what's your problem?

Anne......I didn't vote, only cause I've not used my cuttlebug for anything other then the embossing.

Now, I did 'try' once.....to emboss two pieces of cardstock (SU) at the same time and about halfway through, it sounded like the plate was cracking!! I didn't find a crack, but with two kids around (and knowing you had a piece shoot across the room) I didn't want to take the chance and I did go buy a replacement plate!! I've never tried to do two pieces of cardstock since!!

My two cents worth!!!.....OK, my penny's worth!!....hehe!!

Oh Geesh, I got mine for Christmas, not sure when hubby actually bought it though. Wonder if I should attempt some die cuts? Are you sending your BUG directly to Provocraft??.....or back to the retailer you purchased it at???

Thanks!!

Directly back to Provocraft. They are sending me the $$$ for the shipping. I do have to say that i was NOT impressed with their customer service. I sent them an email, waited a week, made a phone call, waited 4days for a call back, blah blah blah. I was kinda shocked because they are such a huge company. I guess I expected better customer service. Oh well.....at least they are making good on it now.

I have used it lately with the die cuts with no problems so far. I even used it some more with med clipboards and the die cuts without a problem. It does make the cracking sound but so far it has not cracked, but the plate is marked up from the die cuts. I put the die cuts directly in the middle of the plate and use all 4 together and have used them one at a time. I have also used up to 3 pieces of cs, without a problem.

I just got mine yesterday and used the flower die cut with med coasters and I heard some cracking noises some of the times but not all and there is no visible crack in the B plate. Hope it will be ok, if not I will be first in line to talk to Provo Craft. I had a memory maker self sharpening $50 trimmer that was cutting a little off and messing up the edge of the cs, they sent me a new one and I didn't even have to return the other one. They were quick too and great customer service.

I am on my second "B" plate. I used it about 40 times before it finally broke into. It worked a long time with a big crack and finally while cutting some CB flowers it snapped. What is Provo Craft's number. Maybe I need to call them too.

The information I got from Provo craft was the first "b" plates that came out didnt have some formula correct in them.... so they cracked noise and all and then broke. She said the new "B" plates were going to have the sound of cracking but wont. I think I have cracked and broke 4 plates.... should I be a brave little sole and try for 5? FYI, Im still using the old plates....havent broken in the new one yet.

Shanon.........why are they sending you a new bug? I bought mine back in November.....right around thanksgiving.....so I would guess I have one of the first ones too.

I broke 2 plates in one day. I called them (Provo) and they were so nice and responsive and I had 2 replacement plates within 48 hours. No problems since.

I heard they had terrible customer service...my plate broke with the second die and my handle broke after it had been used about 6 times. Michaels replaced my bug..I didn't even bother with Provocraft! I highly recommend saving your receipt....

Oh, my! I just got mine a couple of weeks ago, and I hope I remember where I put my reciept. I don't hear any cracking noises (so far, knock on wood!) when I use it, but I used to hear that all the time with my Sidekick for the Sizzlets. Hmmm.... Thanks for the heads up!!!!

The cracking noises are normal for a die cut system.

I have been using my Bug a *ton* since Christmas, and I have just broken my second B plate. I use it for my own personal stuff, as well as *lots* of die-cutting for my classes.

If your plate cracks or breaks after 5-10 uses, then you have a defective plate. If it cracks after 100 uses, you've just used it up! :-)

Provocraft does not seem to respond to emails--but a phone call usually gets a good response.

How long should you use a B plate for? Until it breaks?

Well, the official word from Provo Craft is "until you stop getting a clean cut." :-) But yeah, I just use them till they break. I try to keep extras on hand. I also use plates *just* for embossing, so I don't get little lines embossed on my papers.

Yes. The dies have to cut *through* the material and *into* something. Like a cutting board for a knife.

I voted 'no problem', but I have to add the caveat that I haven't used it 6 times for dies, yet. Thanks for the info, I'll go get a new plate to have on hand.

I didnt answer the poll 'cause I'm not sure any response really answered to my situation. I had the original B plates cutting regular CB dies and cardstock just fine. Then I used a Sizzix die and some thicker chipboard and it broke. I contacted Provocraft cust svc via telelphone, and they send out a replacement without question. The new plates have been cutting everything in sight (including the Sizzix and chipboard) without any issues- I love it! I "think" the new ones are a tad thinner, or have some reinforcement material in them. Whatever it is, they are cutting fabulously now.

Mine are still going strong, although I got the ominous *crack* as I used it last night. I was so sure I was going to be joining the "my B plate broke" club I have been trying to be conscientious about rotating, flipping and otherwise making sure to sue all parts of the plate so it will last longer. Oh, and the new CB stuff looks awesome...I already got the Traffic Jam embossing folder...it's so cool!

Thanks so much for this thread! My B plate just broke, with less than 10 uses, and I called Provo Craft and they're sending replacements right out. Thanks for the info to call rather than email, I really appreciate it. Thanks ladies!!!

I've used my original plates a TON (mostly die-cutting) without any problems -- I bought my Bug back when they first came out . . . the very first day that Robert's had 'em on the shelves!

I do have a spare package of B plates on hand but so far haven't bothered to open 'em.

The plate broke as I was watching a demo of the 'bug at my LSS and she had me crank it through! OMG I was so embarrassed cuz I didn't know that could happen and she said it was OK that it had actually cracked a really long time ago and it was only a matter of time before it actually broke.

I bought an extra set of B plates in anticipation of this. I haven't even had a chance to play with my 'bug yet tho so I have no actual personal experience yet so I didn't vote.

I've used mine a lot for embossing & just a few times for dies. Some cracking noises but no problems. Owner of the LSS store said she broke some plates when she was first trying out different combinations of plates & other dies. She told me that if it feels TOO TIGHT when I'm cranking the 'sandwich' thru it probably is so STOP or I'll break a plate. You have to have the right sandwich combination & it will vary depending on the die being used, c/s, chipboard, etc. but they aren't meant to last forever. Excellent idea to have a separate set of B's for embossing - think I'll do that.
