Has anyone tried to use a rectangle cut from a foam craft sheet to make their own multi-color ink pad using reinkers? I'd like to use my fall colors of reinkers on a foam sheet and then use a leaf stamp and get a variegated color. Is this possible?
I'm not sure craft foam is the right texture to absorb inks for this - maybe try putting dab of reinker on a scrap and see what happens? I'm thinking it will just sit on the surface but I could be wrong!
Ranger's Cut n Dry foam works well for custom pads so it is possible to DIY rather than buy a multicolour pad. You can store it in a ziplock bag so it can be used more than once.
Thanks, guys. I think I'm gonna get both the FELT and Cut 'n Dry FOAM and see what I like using the best. I love experimenting with inks. This will keep me busy for awhile. Thanks again.
I use Cut & Dry felt to make my own ink pads too. You can use craft felt to make your own ink pads but the colors blend in together and get muddy looking after a few uses. Fun Foam is great to make your own stamps and they adhere ink well but I think it doesn't make a great ink pad in the long run especially for dye inks. Foam works great for acrylic paints and pigment type inks but it gets messy after awhile. I went with Cut & Dry because it's advertised the colors won't touch each other. For example if you put pink, purple and blue lines down. The pink won't blend into the purple. Purple won't blend into the blue. It works as advertised. I am a frugalite so felt and fun foam are more attractive in price. It turned out to be a big headache. I spent the $6 on Cut & Dry. One big sheet lasts forever.
A MUCH cheaper alternative would be the baby wipe technique or just regular felt from the craft store! I LOVE the baby wipe technique (still one of my favorites 4 years later). I also had a demo friend who had great success with just using regular felt! Good luck!!!
