Thinlits in original sizzix
 

Does anyone know if there is a way to make Thinlits work in the original red Sizzix? Thanks so much.

I had/have an adapter that fits on the Sizzix that allows thin dies to be cut. I have given this machine to my granddaughter to use. I purchased the adapter years ago and it has a magnet that holds it on the machine so no slipping.

edit: I went to Amazon and it is called a Sizzix system converter.

Took a risk and went out and purchased a die similar to thinlits at a local shop today. Even with the adapter it is not even close to snug enough to begin cutting through. Got it to work by using about 1/2 a mini notepad as a shim. Wondering what else I could use as such a thick shim; using a second cutting pad was too thick.

I had one of those magnetic adapters also and mine was snug, when I used it with them... but, I think anything you find that works as a shim is a go... what about those soft pads they make for embossing for the cuttlebug? not sure what they call them anymore but, they are like rubber pads? ( thinking if it didn't fit on the sizzix pad you could trim it with scissors)

I've used pieces of chipboard ... you could make up your own plate to the right size?

This thick Cutting Pad was specially designed for use in the original press-style Sizzix machine. Constructed of high-quality polypropylene plastic, the Cutting Pad allows for easy die-cutting of Originals dies in the original Sizzix machine.

Combined with the System Converter (sold separately), the original Sizzix machine and Standard Cutting Pad can also die-cut and emboss Sizzix chemically etched dies and embossing products (Clearlits, Embosslits, Sizzlits and Simple Impressions). Add a Sizzix Adapter (sold separately) to create a sandwich for accommodating competitors� wafer-thin dies.

The Cutting Pad measures 6 3/8" x 4 7/8" x 3/8" and lasts for thousands of cuts. All Sizzix Cutting Pads are meant to be used on both sides. When both sides of the Cutting Pad are worn out, it is time for a replacement Cutting Pad.

If you have the Sizzix Standard Cutting pad (still available lots of places), the system converter, and the Sizzix adapter (both still available lots of places as well), you should be good to go.

I use post-it notes to hold my spellbinders in place on the paper.

And even though the "big red" is heavy, it is definitely less prone to damage when traveling.

The sizzix adapters that were made for use with thin dies are available from Sizzix at this page:

But if you have a clear acrylic that is the same thickness as these adapters, I'm pretty sure that would work. In the thread above there is a link to a youtube video from a store that sold acrylic plates for that purpose, but I didn't find them on their page.

I was also going to say the Magnetic Adapter. It's worth searching online to find one.

you also need the little black adapter that is the same size as the sizzlet. they were sold in packs of 6 way back when. that is what u need in addition to the steel magnetic adapter that attaches under the cutting area.

Original sizzix and thin dies.
 

Just bought an original sizzix. I bought the system converter and sizzix adapter. I am not able to cut thin dies. The bar doesn't come down enough. I even put a piece of vinyl and the cut is very uneven. Help?

Just to confirm how wafer thin dies work in the "Big Red" machine.

First, in the track of the machine you need to have a Sizzix cutting plate that was made for this machine.

Then you need to have the Sizzix System Converter (a magnetized piece that fits under and attaches to the press).

Then you need to have the Sizzix Adapter (or several). These were made for the Sidekick but they give that small extra thickness for cutting.

All that said. On my "Big Red" when I have the Cutting Plate and the System Converter in the machine, when the lever goes down, it touches the cutting plate.

I place the paper on the cutting plate, the die with cutting edge down taped to the paper. An adapter (or a few-spread out over the die, one layer only!) goes on top of the die.

I would suggest this:
Make sure you have the cutting plate designed for the original Sizzix.
Make the sandwich: Cutting plate, paper, die taped to the paper.
If you don't have adapters, make a shim. Try chipboard layers, tablet backs, etc to get the thickness you need to cut successfully. The adapter has the advantage of being rigid and non-compressible.
Then press, slide, repeat.

I think one side of plate is uneven. The middle and right side will not cut. I have to tape to far left side and flip plates around and if any go to the middle they won't cut.
I have the magnetic converter, the sizzix adapter the cutting plates for original sizzix and then I'm using a piece of vinyl flooring as a shim and still won't cut correctly. :(
