The latest news: SU has eliminated the "card recipes" from the catty and the demos have to print the recipes (with card pics) from the demo site for SU. So....
Let me see if I calculate this right:
Color copies X 100 recipes (approximately) with photos X all the catelogs you supply to your customers = a chunk of change! (Even if there are only 10 pages involved!)
Is SU planning on making the recipes available to the average Joe or Jane when we visit the website after January 19th?
A demo put on another thread that her order from December 23rd was not received until January 9th.
Shelli herself didn't know the demos were required to pull photos from the get together in Florida off their blogs and she posted a pic on her blog. Why all the secretiveness?
I've always had my catelog from my demo by at least a week before the actual purchase date, and my demo tells me they haven't even been shipped yet. Last year on Christmas day, I opened a package of rubber stamps and my new catty was in the box - my demo had put it in the box for me!
What, exactly is going on with SU? To me, it seems the company is slightly unraveled in 2009! (And yes, I understand inventory and time off for their employees at Christmas.)
I got an order (backordered stuff) after Christmas. Anyway, the calendars will make great new year surprises even if Jan is almost over! I just wish when you order on-line you knew it was going to be a backorder.
Like I said in another thread-customer service is everything when we are all pinching pennies. When the times get good, I would want all my customers to remember I was there for them in the bad times.
Ugh the card recipes were one of my favorite things about the catty. Even though I'm about to be a demo I don't want to have to go online to see what the recipe for a card is. That really stinks!!! I hope they realize that is sucky and fix it for the next catty. Ugh that a little bit ruins my morning. :(
I'm not a demo, but I do know that my demo pre-ordered her cattys just like she's supposed to and she just got hers today (wednesday). She placed an order for me and took well over a week (almost 2!) from the date she placed it before I got it. It was before the holidays, so it didn't overlap any important days off. Things may just be a little different with this whole "2 catalogues a year" stuff. I'm not sure about the recipes.... I think a lot of people will lose interest if they have to go to their demo for EVERYTHING.
My demo got her catalogs yesterday and I must say that I'm very disappointed not to have the recipes for the sample in the "idea book". I thought that was the way they justified charging so much for the catalog!
I was also somewhat disappointed with the Sizzix Bigz dies that make boxes because they don't show the box that it makes! It's hard to visualize with just the shape that the die cuts. I would have thought that they would have photos of the 3D type die cut results.
Other than that, I enjoyed looking through the new catty. Somewhat disappointed that there aren't more "new" sets. Seems like a lot are just sort of makeovers of previous sets. I was surprised to see Christmas sets in there, as well. Isn't this the Spring-Summer catty? I sure hope they have some cute Easter stamps in the spring mini. I also loved a lot of the new DPs and found a couple of sets that I will probably order. I think this time around I will be buying more accessories than stamp sets. I'll be looking forward to the mini.

To answer this question, yes. And I am glad they made this change. From what I understand the total number of pages hasn't decreased so we have more stuff in the catalog in place of the recipe index thing. And you will still be able to look it up/print it out yourself online if you want it.
If your demo preordered then her catties are on the way. The shipping info doesn't necessarily get updated because it is coming from the printer and not SU!. My catties are out for delivery today and I know several others who have gotten theirs already.
There are quite a few folks out there who start their Christmas cards in June or July, so that's why we have one or two sets in this catalog -- there are actually more, just listed with the "dormant" sets.

after finding scs (actually, my demo turned me on to it, i didn't "find" it) who uses the stampin' up recipies anyway??? the cards here are WAY more creative, and prettier! i've actually been underwhelmed by what they use in the catty. my demo thinks they keep it simple in the catalog so that new stampers don't feel intimidated. i'd MUCH rather have an extra 23 pages of product than 23 pages that don't interest me in the slightest. if i really want to CASE a card in the catty, it's not that hard to look at it, and figure out what was used. or, ask here, and within an hour 20 people have answered your question. this place rawks!
I ordered several items on December 23 and only received 3 of them on January 9. Still waiting for the other items and no word of shipping etc. What gives?

Me, too. I am supposed to get the rest of my order tomorrow, but with our blizzard here, I am not so sure about that. I think 23 days is way too long if they want to stay competitive.
I'm a hobby demo and have already given one to a friend of mine. I've never sold to another person before, but I don't really care if I show it to someone before I am supposed to.

Dormant sets are stamps that are still available for purchase but are not shown in the catalog. Often this list is used for out of season stamp sets (like some of the Christmas sets might be not shown in the Spring/Summer catalog but are still actually available), but there is usually a few other sets as well. I think its mainly a way for them to save a little paper in the catalog.

Wow... my best friend/college roommate had the same last name as you. I have rarely seen that name!

The start date for our catties last year was January 1st. If you got a catty in your order last year at Christmas, that was a week before the actual purchase date.
This year, the new catty date is January 19th. Demos that pre-ordered their catties started receiving them this week. A week before the actual purchase date.
Same thing.....just different timing than last year.
If your demo pre-ordered, her catalogs should have already shipped or she should have them in hand by now.

Once anything gets sent (either from SU or from the catalogue printer) it is no longer SU's fault if it is later arriving than you expected. Have there been storms/blizzards/floods anywhere on the route between ship point and you?
Just got my catalogs today! They are fantastic! As far as the recipes, I usually can tell by looking at the card what they used, at least in the SU catalog, but that may be because I use mostly SU. I like that it makes it possible to add a couple more pages to the catalog, especially now that we have the big shot.
As a demo who placed an order late Dec 23 to get in on the free shipping, I was well aware that it would not ship until Jan as SU was not open more than a couple of days over the holidays. I was shocked and pleased that it shipped on Friday, Jan 2. As for catalogs, I received mine yesterday in Illinois from my preorder and my customers will have in hand this weekend.

The 'recipes', for those who wish to print when the catty goes live at noon on the 19th....is 24 pages of pdf.
This is good to know... I am hoping for customers as well as demos...I am really debting that it is so that there are more pages for sellable merchandise. That is where the profit to stay in business comes from. I do know that the recipes come in very handy as sometimes you just can't place a stamp or a color and you want to know....I will say that as much as I look the catty over ttime and time again...I have gone to the recipes only a handful of times to find an answer to a question. So I think having them online **if** I need them is a FABULOUS option. Can't wait to se all the new goodies!
I am burning CDs with the PDF pages for customers.
 I think that's a super idea! The Angel Company has always just made them available online too so I don't think it's a big loss. More room for the good stuff!
EVERYTHING except the big background stamps and alphas are now die cut in the Spring 09 catalog.
Actually I think it's just the "mini" alphas that aren't die cut...regular alphas are.
I'm excited to have the recipes online instead of in the book. Being able to zoom in to specific areas on a project and the supplies is going to be awesome.
I am so disappointed that the recipes are not listed in the new catalog. How many times have you sat and browsed and thought about which color is used, and you flip to the back to verify? All the time. Sure, the cards may not be the perfect ones, but you want to know, plus now that we are used to that feature, to take it away is crazy.
I'd rather have the downloadable file two or three pages as it is now, so we could tape to the back of the catalog, there is no way I can add 24 pages.
I agree with the questions and comments on how secretive SU is with their catalogs, I understand you can't order early, but why not allow people to see them early? I get that they want to sell all the old stamps and not let people shop between the old and new versions. However, seeing the catalog early gives people the chance to build their anticipation.
We'll see how this two catalog thing goes, you are so right, customer service is where it is all at!

Which boxes were they? Were they on the sizzix site too?
