ok. I bought the marvy embossing tool....then used a SU gun at a workshop...and couldn't believe the difference. Then about 2 months ago, I had a chance to sell my Marvy...and did....so I'm heatless. :( I had been investigating tools, and decided I would buy a Ranger Heat it...but they've been out of stock EVERYWHERE. I just called the company...because I'm really getting desperate to have a tool....and was told they are changing manufacturers and the tool is still in redesign...and it will be months before its on the market again.
SO. WHAT SHOULD I BUY????? I emboss alot on vellum...and found the Marvy warped it badly. Any suggestions? How does the SU gun do on vellum???
I just posted in another thread about this heat gun I just got. I went to a hardware store (Canadian Tire) and bought a dual temp heat gun for about $14 in the paint dept. Its working great for me (better than using my toaster). I like the high temp for embossing on regular paper/cardstock. The lower temp works well for more delicate papers like vellum. I also hold the gun underneath the paper and a litter further away on the lower heat for vellum just so it doesn't scorch the paper.
I have never had issues with my Marvy Heat Gun on any surface. I love my Marvy and still haven't bought the SU one.
Are you holding the gun too close and/or leaving it on any one spot for too long?

The SU! heat tool is wonderful and works great on vellum as well! Get it - you won't regret it!
I am glad to read on this thread about the SU heat gun being good.. I had the Marvy one for a long while with no complaints... a few months ago I bought a brand new SU one on ebay for $5.00 (new in the box) and it has been sitting on the shelf since I got it.. yesterday I found out that someone I know didn't have a heat gun, so I gifted her the Marvy one, along with some embossing powder and an extra Stampimijig too.. she was so happy that now she can emboss! I'm glad to get to use my SU tool now! thanks for all the great reviews of it.

I love my SU! one! Marvy can't come close to it! One thing you can do when you are heat embossing is cover a clip board with aluminum foil, and then heat emboss your project on top of that. This way you are getting heat from the backside too, embossing twice as fast. This keeps from having the heat gun on your project too long, which can cause warping or curling of the paper. HTH.

Just another little hint about using aluminum foil for embossing:
I lined the inside of a 3 inch deep box lid with foil and emboss in there. I get the heat reflection from the foil and my embossing powder doesn't blow all over my work area. Less clean up so more stamping time! (I use a Marvy heat gun too. I may have to try the SU one!)

Maybe the new design will be better? I don't like the heat tools w/ an exposed metal nozzel.

yes, I am amazed at the difference in guns. I was perfectly content with my Marvy...thought it was awesome.....until I tried the SU gun. I couldn't believe the difference. Is the Ranger Heat It tool as good as the SU gun?

Kathy ~ probably not as hot but I Ranger tool b/c the point of operation is guarded and the heat is dispersed more evenly. There is nothing wrong w/ the SU! tool but the metal nose is a magnet for my hand.
