Default sizzix dies and fabric!

ok, so this weekend i did a lil sewing. i used my SU sizzix Daisy#2 die to cut fab flowers for my project and it worked really well. i treid 5 layers and was too thick, didnt get clear cuts so just did 2 and they cut cleaner.

also backed some of the fabric with "wonder-under" fusible web. worked perfect...cut and then iron on!

dont ya just love when things can do double duty?!!!! ;)

When cutting felt, it helps to sandwich the felt between layers of printer paper. Alternately, run the felt through a Xyron and then cut.

Fusible web makes cutting fabric a dream and actually leaves (mostly) clean edges on the fabric.

I will typically iron my fabric on Heat and Bond (the red package) before cutting in my BIGkick. It helps to keep the fabric from fraying and gives it more stability.

You can also run it through the Xyron machine, of your choice before cutting if you only want it sticky backed. This method has been stated in previous postings.

Putting the fabric on a backing before cutting gives you a much cleaner/neater cut.

I would suggest only cutting one piece at a time for a neat/crisp cut. Multiple cuttings at one time may result in uneven edges.

As has been stated above, felt works great also. I also suggest applying the adhesive prior to cutting. The paper backing helps to give a smoother/clean cut.

Also, I like to cut craft foam with the BIGkick. I also use the Xyron before cutting or purchase the foam sticky backed.

I love using the wonderunder on fabric for no-sew Bog Shot projects. I've made quite a few banners using the SU banner die-last christmas made name banners for my nieces and they were a big hit- less than $10 worth of fabric and felt, about 1 1/2 hours per banner.

I just created a tutorial for using the Big Shot for a no sew project with fabric and Wonder Under. You can check it out here:

I am a quilter and stamper and have now been combining the two. I have found that using Misty Fuse (very similar to wonder under) works great and does not leave texture markings like Heat n Bond and is much less stiff for fabrics. It can be reheated many times, and is very easy to use.

FiberArtist4Him....I find using the Heat and Bond to actually be a help when die cutting the fabric. It helps to give the fabric more stability by making it stiffer. That makes it lay flatter to go through my BIGkick for cutting.

But what ever works for you or anyone is what you want to use. Not being a seamstress I was not aware there were so many different products that did the same basic thing.

ladydjd.....Which machine you use won't matter. It's the die you use. Sizzix steel rule dies are best to cut through the fabric.

Just use same sandwich in machine as you use for cardstock.

Wink Re Misty Fuse

Just a note on the Misty Fuse, it comes as fine web that is not paper backed. But you can easily use either freezer paper or parchement paper to get a stiffer fabric if you need it.

When I stamp on fabrics I almost always iron freezer paper on that back. It helps stabilize the fabrics so they take the best stamping.
