I'm new at stamping and I know you all can help me out. I currently have a heatgun from WalMart and HATE it for embossing. I actually have much better luck embossing with my toaster!
I have done some searches and people have talked about Milwaukee and SU guns being similar. I did a search on Milwaukee and all that I found were industrial looking hair dryers. Does everyone prefere SU or are there others out there that perform as well that can be purchased with a coupon? I love SU and wish to spend my craft budget on SU stamps, papers, matching inks, embellishements and so on and get tools with discounts if possible. I also dont want to make the same mistake twice.
Please let me know. I am going to a party on Wednesday so I need to decide by then if I get 2 stamp sets or 1 stamp set and a heat gun.
This site has been awsome and inspiring. Thank you all for your help. Happy Stamping!
I have used cheap ones from W-lm-art and then I have used the blow dryer types and then I have used thet one from Stampin' Up. I think for the money and one time expense, the Stampin' Up one is the best. It does what you want it to quickly and correctly.
I used the others at big stamping events where they used a lot of different kinds of item. I was not impressed with any other than the Stampin' Up heat gun. I would get it.
I agree. The SU one is WAY better than all the others I've seen/tried. It heats up really quickly and comes w/ a 1 year manufacture warranty. It's definately worth the $$.
I have a Coloriser, by EK Success, I like it very much, heats up well & it has two heat settings so I haven't burnt as much card stock as I used to. plus, I was able to use my 40% off coupon (local small craft store honers Micheals coups) Only thing I don't care about is that it tends to roll, but I have it sitting in a doll stand & that's no longer a problem...
I have one that I got with a coupon at either Hobby Lobby or Ben Franklin. It's green, and smaller than the SU! one (can't think of the brand and am not home to look at the moment). I HATE IT. I have used a few different ones, including the SU! one and I have to say that I would highly recommend the SU! heat gun. I have it on my wish list! Some things are just worth the price!
Edited to add: why I "hate" it... It takes longer to heat up, longer to cool down, and the blower part (where the hot air comes out) is fairly large. I like that the SU! gun has a narrow blower so you can better control where the air goes.
I had one I got with a coupon at Joann's. Then I decided to get an SU one since I'm a demo and sometimes I need 2 heat tools for my Stamp Camps. So the day I got the SU one, my customers got to use both of them. One gal, who always gets thing cheap whenever she can, LOVED embossing (her first exposure to it) and LOVED the SU heat tool and ordered it right away! So I think you won't be sorry if you get the SU one!
I have a blue one & I think the name on it is Stampabilities. I like it, but ifI had to do it all over again I would buy the SU one. I have used my dd SU heat gun & it is so much better.
I've had mine for a long time and have really used it. To this very day it's still like new. If I'm not mistaken I thought SU used to sell this one years ago, and thoguth that thiers today was still the one and the same, that they just had it made for them by Marvy and changed the color of it to black, like so many other of their products have.
I have a Milwaukee heat gun that I've used for years. It is great. I'm thinking that Milwaukee makes Stampin Up heat guns for them. I bought my Milwaukee at a local stamp store and as far as I know that's about the only place you can get one. I've looked all over the internet for my model and can't find it. I've used the Stampin Up heat gun and it works as well as my Milwaukee so I think you'd be very happy with that one.
Marvy.. 40% off coupon at Michaels.
Been through alot at this house including removing tile from kitchen floor, removing decals at DH shop and, oh yeah, lots of embossing projects in my stamp room for the last 6 years. I'd say it has held up well and it works as good as any other I have tried at friends houses, stamp camps, workshops..etc.

I've had an original Milwaukee for nearly 10 years now. Never has let me down, and is bar far, best quality tool I've used ever.
I do not know for fact, but was told that Milwaukee makes SU!'s heat gun. I also got it, as I like to have one in my demo kit and one on my work surface in my studio. It was redesigned to have the nozzle recessed, for safety reasons, and I find it to be a very high quality tool, and very reasonably priced, for the quality, when compared to similar tools out on the market.
Milwaukee makes tools. For men. Built to last. Sadly, I cannot always say the same for manufacturers that offer similar products for the crafting industry. While I've personally never owned a Marvy, I did have a customer in the past that ended up returning hers 2x due to malfunction within the first few uses. At that point, she insisted on a refund and bought the Milwaukee and never had a problem since.
If I were to do it all over again, I'd buy a Milwaukee hands down, and luckily for me, even after 10 years, it doesn't appear I'll have to replace it for years go come.

I love my SU Heat Tool and have used the "other" hair dryer style heat tools and hated them because the heat was not dispersed directly onto the area that you are embossing, but rather a larger area. I always felt it didn't get as concentrated on the actual image I was embossing.
Well, that's my 2 cents for that...
I bought my gun from SU! 2 1/2 years ago and the little info paper in the box said "Milwaukee". So I know they made my gun and its the best! Hasn't let me down yet.

Thank you ladies for all of your advice. I did order the SU heat gun. I'm very excited to get it - It should be here the week after next. I wont have to worry about burning out the toaster by using it without bread.
You can call me ignorant if you want to, but what difference does it make?
I agree. I have the one from Walmart and it works fine. Not having had the experience of using any other, I can't make any comparisons but this one does get the job done.
