Default which die cut machine should i get?

i'm finally taking the plunge but don't know exactly what i'm doing. i borrowed a cricut and i just don't want to use a program and push buttons. i just want to run dies thru a machine. so is SU big shot the same as the powder blue sizzix and can dies for both be used on the sizzix? are all the mats included when you buy the machine? its all very daunting!

If you want a stand alone die cutting machine, the Big Shot/Big Kick is a good investment. It can cut most dies with different 'sandwiches'. (Thick ones and the wafer think new) The BS comes with a multipurpose platform and 2 acrylic plates. You can emboss using most embossing folders and and die cut with this machine. It is sturdy, stable and doesn't take up too much crafting area 'real estate'. The opening where the platform/plates goes through is approximately 6" wide.

When my first BS stopped rolling with a sandwich stuck midway through, I immediately replaced it. With the assist of my LSS owner, I was able to unstick the sandwich and with a little sewing machine oil 'revive' my first BS. Now I have 2 working machines - so a 'back up' in case is I get a sandwich stuck again.

You can buy a BS other places besides SU and for a lower price because of sales. My newer BS is a teal color or the BK comes in periwinkle if you don't want black.
Good luck and happy die cutting. Sorry I am enabling you because there are sooo many dies you 'need' - $$$$$

First of all I am a Cricut lover from way back. BUT I think my Sizzix Big Kicks (like the Big Shot) may be the better machine. There are times when I have regretted my Cricut purchase (money spent on cartridges, contankerous sometimes about cutting and having to buy mats) but I am always happy with my Sizzix. The only draw back is it will not increase the size of the cut and that is why I have a Cricut too. I think as a first machine the Sizzix is a good buy.

I LOVE my Big Kick, bought at Michael's with 50% coupon. I use it with almost every card. I bought the magnetic platform from SU (My demo often gives 30% off), and use it a lot, too. You have to use the original platform, flipping the 'pages' when you use embossing folders and some other dies. EASY to use with the really thick Sizzix dies, as well as Spellbinders and other thin dies. You will need to replace the cutting plates after they get all cut up, but they go on sale often. Have Fun!

I so want to get a Silhouette. But I want the smaller one. Currently I have 2 cricut machines. Both are the smaller ones.

I really like the idea of downloading things to cut out. Rather than having to buy Cartridges. that leave you wanting something different.

Love the Big Shot (Big Kick) and if you don't want to crank a handle, get the Vagabond.
