Spellbinders dies
 

Dear Split Coast members,

First, I would like to personally thank everyone for your comments and patience while Spellbinders looked into the �dirty edge die issue�. After Speaking with our factory, reviewing samples sent in from various split coast stamping members and extensively testing the dies it has become evident that in some cases the paint on Spellbinders dies may flake off on or near the cutting edges of the dies.
The Spellbinders dies are chemically etched dies. They are painted the Copper color for cosmetic purposes only. When using ANY chemically etched die in conjunction with a ROLLER or PRESS machine, it is NORMAL due to the extreme PRESSURE exerted in the machines for some of the color to come off the edges of cutting surfaces of the dies. This includes ALL CHEMICALLY ETCHED DIES including the Silver ones which we have also observed and tested extensively.
The reason this is more noticeable with Spellbinders dies is due to the Copper Coloring. Again, the color coming off the dies is strictly cosmetic only and in no way effects the performance or strength of Spellbinders dies.

We have used and tested a wide array of cleaning products and have determined the best way to remove any unwanted residue is to clean the dies with a general household cleaner such as Pine sol, Lysol household cleaner, dish liquid and laundry detergent along with a brush of some kind such as a toothbrush, nail brush or small household cleaning brush. I am very happy to say that all of the above mentioned products removed and resolved the �dirty edge issue�. Thanks so much Stacey!! When you guys research a problem, you really RESEARCH it to the MAX!! We appreciate all of the hard work and effort that went into posting this solution! You guys are amazing!! I haven't had too much of an issue with this (only has happened to me once), but I will certainly know what to do if it happens again!

If you had seen the things I have put through my Wizard, you would understand why a little paint wouldn't bother me! That is what I like about the machine is that it is so tough, just like the Spellbinders die. Guess that is the reason some call me the Queen of road trash! Thanks for the explanation, though, Stacey. Let's us know you really care.

Thanks a lot Stacey for your response. Even though I have had the issue of paint on the (VERY EDGE) of my cardstock, I've always been able to remove it with a regular pencil eraser. I will certainly do what you have suggested for future use of my dies. I love them, and the wide verity of projects/cards I can make with them goes without saying, not to mention the extra space in my work area (no punches). The extra step to erase the edge is not a problem for me at all. After doing what you have suggested, I sure the problem will go away. Your product is truly amazing!! And I certainly will continue use of them. As a crafter, I know a good thing when I have it, and believe me, this is a GOOD THING!!!

I hadn't noticed this problem (and I have a truly obscene number of spellbinder dies) but I really appreciate how much attention you've paid to the few mentions of the flaking dies. It makes my job as a retailer so much better if I can offer a solution to my customers who come to me with product issues! Thanks again!

Stacey, thank you so much for your response and for all of your research into this! I have had a few dies where the paint has come off but it hasn't been a real big issue for me and I have just been able to wipe it off. I did however try what you suggested and let me tell you it works like a charm!! After cleaning the die I put it through the Wizard several times and it was clean every time! I have been using Spellbinders dies for about three years now & I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world!! I absolutely LOVE the products and the fact that Spellbinders stands behind their products, does the research and keeps us all updated on the latest news really says a lot about the company!! Thanks again!!
