Copics/SU color to shadow

i have the su marker set and NO copics. i would love to try the copics because i love how the colored images does not have any "lines" that overlap (hope that makes sense).
i would like to start with the copics and simply buy one to outline...
without spending a fortune, what copic color does everyone use to shadow/outiline their images? do i only that color (assuming no blender pen since i am not wanting to color...just yet;) ).
if you do not use copics, what color do you use of su?

Common gray ones are C1 (bluish gray), N1, T1, (warm, brown gray) W1 or any light color (color that ends in 0 or 1 )

I like using Cool grays or pale blues, BV's or yellows
