Default Sizzix Bigz Carry All Die?

Hi everyone!

I recently bid on and won a brand new Sizzix Bigz Carry All Die on ebay! Now, I got it in the mail today and could not believe how TINY the darn basket is. I think it would fit one nugget chocolate in it or here in Australia I could put a 'Minty' in it!

What the heck does one do with such a tiny bag! I honestly thought it was heaps bigger than it is and I'm really disappointed!

Any help much appreciated!

Karen

I know what you mean about being disappointed in the size of some of the Bigz dies. I bought the pillow box and the scalloped envelope from SU and neither one will hold a gift card so they are 'stashed' away. I have seen how some crafters have 'fudged' a little to make them accomodate a GC but I really am not too thrilled with the look of the altered end product. I thought more space on the die could be used. The die is size seems big enough but I guess the actual blade/cutting area has to be quite a bit smaller.

Sorry you are disappointed after spending $$

I have been burned also. I learned really quick not to buy any dies without seaching online or asking here to find out the finished size!

That is exactly why I quit purchasing those kinds of sizzix dies. I purchased a couple of envelopes and letter dies way back, got them on major clearance, and when they got here I was very upset with the fact that the item itself only took up less than half the die and was very very small. I was planning on making small notecards with them and I'm not sure you can even make a gift label with them they are so small.

That is how I feel about the pillow die. I didn't know it was so small. I've been trying to figure out how to get rid of it. What can I put in there?

I don't have the die of the original poster but the pillow box one I use a lot. It is perfect for just a little something---stuff it full of candies a lot--or money--tea bags, jewelry etc. There are lots of great ideas out there for the pillow box. I do have one of the basket/box things and I put small treats in it--long ones that stand up, pens, pencils, jewelry etc. Too bad they can't use more of the plastic die to make the box bigger some how. I hope some one post a link to their projects so we can check them out on how they use your die.

Thanks so much for all your input ladies - I was beginning to think it was me just being fussy! I've looked and looked again at that Carry All die and seriously its the most impractical thing I've ever seen! lol Very very frustrating to shell out money for something you just can't/wont use!

I would be pretty upset myself. I was saved from the pillowbox by a card party.
I couldn't get the darn thing taped well enough to stay closed and the size was smaller than I thought. It's amazing the things they can do with photography to make things look bigger than they are.

I am really suprised to hear that the pillow box is not very big! I honestly thought by the photos I've seen that it was heaps bigger! I think sometimes people need to photograph the item next to a human hand so that we can see! lol

Oh well, once bitten twice shy eh! lol

Default Finished size information ...

... should be listed with every die -- on the package, in online listings, and in catalogs. At least that's what I think. Why Stampin' Up! and other die sellers are so resistant to making that information readily available is beyond me, ... unless they realize how small some of the items made from their dies are. We all need to ask the manufacturers and sellers to include finished sizes in all item descriptions.

Default big ideas for the small box!

I too agree that this box is WAY too small - however I did know what I was getting into - I could see the finished size the box -but I figured I could come online and find all kinds of inspiration - well....I haven't!

So I started to think of what this little box MIGHT be used for:

friendship box (search google - there is a poem on Kaboose

giving embellishments to your paper crafter friends (like the library clips from stampin up, or a nice little curl of ribbon and matching brads).
a $100 bill would fit nicely! (or other denomination of $) you could say 'big things come in small packages!
a box for your child to put their tooth in for the tooth fairy (then leave it open with the $$ in it).
candy coated sunflower seeds would fit inside - along with various other treats (jelly bellys/cinnamon hearts etc...)
it could be a confetti box - fill it with stars and say "reach for the stars!"
hearts - box of love
confetti and have - 'celebrate!" on the side
christmas - mini jingle bells insisde (ie: stampin up or dollar store)

could put rice/confetti in for a wedding.

favor for a birth announcement - pink/its a girl blue its a boy.

thank you favor - fill it with tic tacs -and say 'Thanks a mint!'

could put mini sunshines in "You Are My Sunshine!"

It would also be a great box for stickers
or even 1 balloon or a fake tatto
those are just some starter ideas.

it can also hold parts of a puzzle/small treats/ scripture for an advent calendar

and if you make embellished paper clips - they would fit in there too.

I, too, have the pillow box die and love it. For Halloween, I got a pack of Halloween themed cardstock at Walmart, very cute, and 6 sheets for a buck. Each page made 4 pillow boxes.

I used my 2" scallop circle punch, put a cute Halloween sticker in the middle, and attached it to the completed pillow box. Then I used sparkly Diamond Stickles around the scallops on the edges. They turned out so darling, were so quick to make, and I could fit 2 Hershey snack size bars in each one. Just right for a little treat!

I took them to the Walmart greeter ladies who smile and say hi to me, I took some to my public library for all the people there who are so helpful and kind.
Lots of smiles for very little effort and money!

I'm now doing the same thing for Valentines Day, using a pack of Valentine paper I picked up and some cute Valentine stickers from the Dollar store.

I use my ATG gun to close the tab on the box and attach the scallop circle. It sticks just fine.

Here's a quick scan of the Valentine Pillow Boxes. They don't look as cute when they're not folded, but I don't take good pictures, so I usually scan.

Before you buy any Sizzix die, go to sizzix.com and look up the details. Be sure to note the "assembled measurement of this die-cut shape" and look at the line drawing of the die (usually the second photo option).

The line drawing is really helpful to see how many pieces are involved and how much assembly you have to do. You also get an idea of the finished size because you can see how much of the die is being used. I learned this the hard way after buying the BigzXL Envelope A2 #1 die and finding out (when it arrived) that it cuts in 3 pieces and the envelope has to be glued together. PITA! (The BigzXL Envelope A2 #2 die is the same way. No wonder they're both on clearance!)

It's been suggested/requested often that SU include the finished size of items made with the Sizzix dies in the (paper and online) catalog. Info on the SU-exclusive dies is nearly impossible to find on sizzix.com. In fact, though I know I've seen it before, I can't find it right now! Perhaps the new SU IBC (in June) will have the measurements!

Default Some Measurements

As TheOtherMeg mentioned, it has been suggested often that SU! include measurements in their die descriptions. It seems like a "no-brainer" decision to me, but SU! has disagreed with this idea to date. Here's hoping they include in the next IBC all the information we need in order to make informed buying decisions . This list is from 2009 -- it's older than I thought it was -- but it may be helpful to someone.

Fancy Favor box: 3 1/16" x 2 3/16" x 3 1/2".
Baskets & Blooms: the base is 1 7/8" in diamater and 3 5/8" high.
Perfect Setting: smaller piece is 1 3/8" high. The larger piece is 3 5/8" high.
Matchbox: 2 11/16" x 2 1/16" x 13/16".
Bitty Box & Envelope: Bitty Box measures 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" x 3/4".
The envelope measures 2 1/4" x 2 1/4".
Flower Folds: Flowers measure 4 7/8", 3 7/8", 3 1/8", and 2 1/2".
Pop-Up Look Here: 4 5/16 x 5 1/2"
Box #2: 3 3/4" x 1 5/16" x 2".
Pop-Up Three Tier Cake: base measures 3 1/4". 2 1/2" high.
Bag with Scallops: 3 3/4" high, 2 1/4" wide, 1 5/8" deep.
Pop-Up 3D Ball: 3 1/2 high, 2 1/2" at the base, 4" at the middle.

If anyone has the measurements of the current dies, I hope he/she will post them here. As an earlier poster said, check the Sizzix website when possible, and for SU! exclusives that aren't on the Sizzix site, call SU and persevere until you get the measurements.

another thought on the mini carry all.....

This may be a bit labor intensive - but if you REALLY want a bigger carry all box and you just need to make a few try this:

put the die through the big shot/kick etc...
now you have your template.
scan in it into your computer and then just enlarge the image -then you'd have a bigger carry all to work with.

OR enlarge on a photocopier.

Again - not great if you want to make 100, but if you just need to make a few, it might help.

I have this one and like it. Just be aware that you need to cut 2 pieces per box and they need to be joined. It does come out cute and lends itself to being embellished for the occasion.
