Default ACK! Cracked Thin Die Adaptor for Cuttlebug

I cracked the thin die adaptor with my CB!! :(

Oh, I am sooo mad. Ok, what did I do wrong? I used a thin sheet of chipboard, a piece of cardstock that was non SU (thin stuff) from Michaels (cause I was practising). Used the button Sizzlet die set and CRACK!!!!!!!!!

I am not impressed. I then tried the whole thing with the normal plate and it cut just fine. I did not need the adaptor plate with this set. Well, how was I to know this??

When I looked at the Sizzlet set and compared it to a Cuttlebug die set, the Sizzlet was a smidgeon thicker. Maybe cutting the cardstock and paper together was just too thick . I perhaps should have cut them separately??

Anyways, I'm going back to Michaels and asking for a new adaptor and now am extremely paranoid about using Sizzlets (with the adaptor); will try without the adaptor first, before using anymore Sizzlets.

I did need to use the adaptor for the Quickutz die. That worked just fine.

what do you mean when you say adaptor? do you mean plate C?
directions say for using non-CB thin dies (does this mean sizzlets?), use from bottom to top plate a, plate b, die, paper, plate c

sizzlets are meant to be used with either the converter for the sizzix or with the 2 thin pieces of plastic for the sidekick, the sizzix adapter was made so people could use their Quikutz dies with the sizzix or the sizzix sidekick.

Cool

For Sizzlits I found it best to use A and B, and then, after paper and die, a B. Is that what you did? And, the B cracked?
Or did you use the C?

Could you clarify exactly how you would layer it for the Cuttlebug?

Default what I used

I used the main plate, then plate B, then thin cardstock with thin paper, then plate C. This was for the Sizzlet; yet when I did this with the Quickutz, it worked beautifully.

I wonder if I should not have used both cardstock and paper, if though it was thin?

Wink

I also think that the sizzlets are thicker than the Quickutz you used. Plus with the chipboard, to make it thicker. I do not know if sizzlets cut chipboard, but, I would try A and B, your stuff, and then the B or the Sizzlet adapter as suggested, and see what happens.

I do what Karen said: Top plate should be the B plate for the Sizzlit since they are thicker than the QK & more like the Cuttlebug dies. Use the C plate for the QK dies. I've run the Sizzlits & Cuttlebug dies together in the same pass before so I know it works & cuts them both. Hope they replace it for you. My plates are getting etched up really quickly...thinking I'd better stock up!

Wink the plates, esp. B

I agree. The plates get etched up, fast. I wonder why? Maybe that is why it cuts so well. There is a firm pressure. Anyway, anytime I have a coupon and don't know what to get, this will be a good option.

Just tried chipboard with the Sizzlits and they go through just fine (B plate on top). It wasn't the really thick stuff - it was one of those backing sheets that they ship packets of cardstock with. HTH!

I do not know how for cuddlebug, do not know what cuddlebug is and do not know if it is compatible....like I said-- the adapter was invented BY SIZZIX to use with THEIR Machines for Quikutz.

You NEVER need the adapter to use with sizzlets (that would be too thick), it is for use with Quikutz...on the sizzix sidekick or the regular sizzix with the magnetic converter.

The cuttlebug cuts chipboard fine with the CB dies, the Quickutz dies AND the Sizzlets (without plate C for the Sizzlets, as I found out the hard way).

I think the confusion is because the OP cracked her "Cuttlebug" adapter, not a Sizzix adapter. The Cuttlebug is a new diecut machine that has wafer thin dies very similar to Sizzlets. But it comes with an adapter plate to use with Quikutz, from what I have read. She tried to use her Cuttlebug machine with a Sizzlet die and the extra adapter plate, but the adapter plate cracked. I think since the dies are so close in thickness that you probably don't need the C plate, but I don't have one to tell you for sure.

My mom already ordered a Big Shot for me for Christmas, and I didn't have the heart to tell her that a newer, cuter model just came out. So, I will stick with my BS and just get really cute CB dies to use with it.

It's ok. I'm over the 'shock' now!! I just now know that Sizzlet dies do NOT need plate C in the Cuttlebug. But Quickutz dies do need plate C.

Thanks for posting Denise. I'll note that on the instruction page. Sorry you had to learn the hard way

OK, I've been scratchin' my head and NOW I get what happened!

Thanks, Speanie!

I already had just gotten the BS 2 months prior, and I *love* it!

Let me tell you: the BS and the CB are equally great machines!!! They operate exactly the same and the only advantage the CB machine has, truly, is the revolutionary fold-up platform.

The cross compatibility among dies is really the key issue, and I credit both Ellison and Provo Craft for addressing that quite marvelously for the consumer.

I don't believe you will regret receiving the BS for Christmas.

I really should sell my BS, now that I have the CB, only because the CB will save more counter-space on my small cutting station, and I do NOT need 2 die cutting machiens that do exactly the same thing!!! But it feels rather mean and brutal, wanting to ditch a perfectly wonderful BS so soon after I got it . . . :(

I used a 40% off coupon at Michaels for mine. The manager told me it was fine to use unless the coupon expressly said not good towards Cuttlebug or diecut machines. I would ask again. :-D

Well, I called my M's again to see if they got any more Cuttlebugs in, and they did! I ran right over and they let me use my coupon! Whoo hoo! I am going to try it after supper. I got the D'vine Swirl folder to try first!

I posted this in the other thread, but just in case you don't see it...I cut the sheet magnet material with the Sizzlit, CB and QK dies - all cut cleanly & neatly!
