Sell Me the ATG

When the whole darn stamping community swears by something it seems I oughta hop on-board, but it seems like a lot of $ for the "gun" and it's very large and cumbersome-looking.

Why do I absolutely have to have it?

( I am using the CM Tape Runner right now, which is very strong and permanent. )

mlehmer 02-06-2008 11:54 AM

It is a pretty big investment but will pay for itself pretty quickly. It does take some time to get the hang of it but I wouldn't be without it now. I get my tape from framinsupplies.com and pay $2.37 plus shipping for 36 yds of tape. It is strong, especially with designer papers.

kimz1959 02-06-2008 12:05 PM

It may look big and cumbersome but IMHO it's well balanced and lightweight enough that you hardly notice. It may seem expensive but definitely pays for itself in no time, I mean 36 yds of adhesive per roll, you can tape forever!!! Well maybe not forever but a good long time. I myself got frustrated with all the little tape runners constantly falling apart or running out on me. I'm sure once you make the investment and start using it you'll be glad you did!

ctorina 02-06-2008 12:22 PM

One of the best things about the ATG is you can always find it. It's big but you will never have to search for it.

hpeet 02-06-2008 12:26 PM

Haha! Good point! :)

Breezy929 02-06-2008 12:36 PM

How much is the ATG?

hpeet 02-06-2008 12:39 PM

Well on this site it's $45.15 for the seemingly popular "714" model (the red one). I don't know if it's cheaper elsewhere.

onestampinmama 02-06-2008 12:46 PM

You *need* because we say so;) !!

Trust me, I was on the fence too.....but now that I have one, I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. SNAIL just doesn't cut it for me anymore! I won't use a glue stick bc I get it on my fingers and I don't care for liquid glue either.

I had to get past the $$ too... I kept thinking about what that could buy otherwise. Think of it as a one time investment to saving a lot money down the road on other adhesives.

I purchased mine thru www.framingsupplies.com

I have the ATG714 and the gold 1/4" acid free adhesive to also use in scrapbooking. They were super helpful when I had a question and needed to call. I got a live person right off the bat who was very polite.

Just go and do it!!

Deb Za 02-06-2008 12:47 PM

I believe the gun itself is around $36-37 from framingsupplies.com, for the ATG 714. I got mine for Christmas so I'm not 100% sure, and I got a box of 12 refills (their Gold acid free adhesive) with it--so it was probably around $70 total?

Now, that sounds high initially--but I was paying almost $13 for 4 DUCK brand tape runners at Joann's, and 3 of them would be equal to 1 roll of ATG tape. By the time I put on the 5th roll of tape, I figure I will have paid for the ATG itself. And I'm into the 2nd roll already since early January. (I used SIX of the DUCK brand ones on Christmas cards, and that was only about 1/2 of my cards that I made!) So after the next month or two, it will have paid for itself.

As far as bulky--only for the first couple of times you use it. After that--it's not a problem at all. In fact, I find I have really good control on getting my tape down the center of my ribbons with it--and it holds them really well!

Well worth the money, IMHO!

I've been using an ATG gun before it was oh so popular...about 7 or 8 years now. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I have a friend who works at a framing shop and he turned me onto it back in the day. I bought it from framingsupplies.com and get the dozen refills a couple times of year. It's the best investment you can make! You'll save GOBS of money on tape refills.

stigmom6 02-06-2008 01:10 PM

At framingsuppkies.com you can get the gun for about $37. Tape $2.40 for 36 yards... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Will not use anything else.

P.S. I am a huge fan of CM will only use them to scrapbook!

NYstamper 02-06-2008 02:03 PM

I broke down last January and ordered the gun and 6 rolls of adhesive, total was around $70 from what I remember. I just used my last roll around November. I love the fact that the roll lasts so darn long and it sticks like crazy. It was worth every penny I paid for it and it has already paid for itself. And I never lose it in my mess!

Cinnistew 02-06-2008 06:23 PM

The price of the adhesive... and it is great adhesive! I LOVE my ATG.

ashmanra 02-06-2008 07:03 PM

Love it love it love it! Just bought a dozen more rolls of tape. Make anything I want without even thinking about the cost of adhesive! Bought the 714 from framingsupplies.com and they are super super fast! Everyone who sees mine wants one! And yes, the size helps me find it in all my stuff! But it is soooo lightweight!

ashmanra 02-06-2008 07:04 PM

Oh, and my cards NEVER come apart! I tried to re-do something last week and there was no getting that baby apart! And it is 80 degrees and raining here today - I am in a hot, humid place!

AndyJoe 02-06-2008 07:56 PM

I purchased my gun last in 2006, since then I have purchased another for my class and all the other students in my classes have ordered their own, they and I just love, Love, love this gun!!! It is the absolute cheapest way to use double sided tape and it really sticks, no coming apart at all. Like someone else stated here, I have so much more control over where the tape goes, I have the 1/4" gun, it truly is so easy to use. I have been using it for over a year and have never had a problem with the tape getting jammed or breaking like I used to with the mono. I could never go back to the mono.
I was like you, I was so hesistant about spending that kind of money, but it really does pay for itself, over and over again and again. BUY IT, you will never be sorry!! I have so "lefties" in my class and they can use it just as easily as I do, right handed.
Cost for each refill at 36yds( at $2.27 each) (as opposed to mono that has only 13 yds at $4.99 each), ease of use, and sticking abilities are all the best attributes of this gun, you will never go back to any other tape.

AndyJoe 02-06-2008 07:59 PM

I forgot to add, I purchased mine at framingsupplies.com . For 12 rolls of tape and the gun and shipping, it cost me a total of $67.57. Now it might have gone up a little since then, but I think they are still the cheapest place to get the gun. I have the ATG 714 (1/4").

tmhurlbert 02-06-2008 08:49 PM

I just got my ATG714 about 2 weeks ago and at first I felt a little intimidated by it. My friend asked me if I loaded it yet because apparently it wasn't an easy thing to do because there was videos on YouTube on how to load it. But, I had no problem loading and it feels quite balanced in my hand and I love it. I can use is on Bazzill papers and it holds.

I can't wait to take it to my next SU club party and everyone will be bringing out their little mono adhesives and I will be pulling out the big boy. I feel like Tim the Tool Man of the stamping world. lol:p

Breezy929 02-07-2008 04:42 AM

I got one for Christmas. I love it!

hpeet 02-07-2008 08:23 AM

I'm going to a big crop at the end of this month and it'll be helpful to not have to refill so many times (or to have to pack so many refills!). And I don't think anyone is going to confuse it w/ theirs! :)

Breezy929 02-07-2008 09:20 AM

Dang enablers!!!!! I ordered one.

AndyJoe 02-07-2008 11:29 AM

You will not be sorry, it will not be long before you are an enabler too!!

ninajeanette2 02-07-2008 12:51 PM

ermmmm which gun do i choose

https://www.bindingsource.com/items....ReQGgodJAXOdQ#

hpeet 02-08-2008 05:54 AM

I think the 714 (the red one) is the popular choice b/c it holds the 1/4" tape w/out the optional "adapter," which the other ones require.

PMR 02-08-2008 06:14 AM

Just sit and figure out how much tape is on the cm or duck or 3l refills compared to the 36 yards on an atg 908 (acid free) roll, it is so much cheaper! The initial cost is a little steep, but boy it pays for itself so quickly! No more running out of adhesive in the middle of a project. I have the 714-red, if you need 1/2" you can just put 2 lines of the 1/4".
BUY IT! And I do not say that about many products. This is the best craft money I have spent!

At the top of the page is the 700 (1/2"), right below that is the 714. It says "New", although it's not really all that new. Current price at framingsupplies is $36.62. One of the best buys I've ever made; no more snail of any brand for me!

DeniseW 02-08-2008 06:38 PM

Buy it you will love it!

Dyu 02-08-2008 06:54 PM

Thanks for reminding me to go order some more tape. :-D
I have had my gun for two years & I have to say it was the BEST investment ever!! The only problem I have ever heard anyone have is when they are left handed people. Seems as though the gun is for right handed peeps, but I could be wrong.

AndyJoe 02-08-2008 07:28 PM

I have several lefty stampers in my class and they have no problem with it, they felt a little awkward at first, but then quickly adapted.

Ah, (lightbulb going on here) maybe that is why I was having trouble adjusting to the tape running on the outside and I couldn't see where I was placing it. I don't have a problem now but that makes sense. Thanks.

ardenskay 02-08-2008 07:50 PM

What tape do most of you use in it? I see the #924 and then the acid-free one...is there much difference in the two, except for the acid-free part? I'm thinking of getting the atg714....I don't really scrapbook.

Thanks!

Franklinn 02-08-2008 08:19 PM

Best purchase I ever made. I save so much money and this tape adheres and adheres like nothing else!

stampinisforme 02-12-2008 11:46 AM

I just bought the atg 700 for 12.71~~ :-D
