Default SCS Newbie Here

I have been a paper crafter for over 30 years and have been getting the Weekly Inkling for years. But I don't think I've ever posted here before.

I have enjoyed using Fiskars products for many years, but I am currently concerned about my SureCut Paper Cutter. I haven't had any complaints about my cutter until Sunday night. That night I tried cutting 2 pieces of Springhill 8.5” x 11” 110lb Cardstock Paper. I could not get a through, clean cut which is funny because I had cut cereal boxes just fine. I then tried cutting reg. copy paper and they did not cut clean either.

So my question is what went wrong? Only thing I can think of is I have the wrong blade on it. But that blade cut the cardboard box just fine. Do I need to buy a different kind of blade? Please let me know, as all my paper projects are now on hold until I can get clean cuts again. (I did send in my question to Fiskars 2 weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything back yet.)

Thanks so much!
Melanie

Hi and welcome to posting! I get tons of good info here.

Run a toothpick thru the track the blade rides in. You may have dust and debris from the cardboard cutting built up that is not allowing the blade to slide cleanly.

Then I would try a new blade. Those blades are small and don't auto re-sharpen. The cardboard could have dulled it.

Hi Margot, Thanks for welcoming me.
I was looking to just buy a new blade, but on Amazon there were so many diff. blades to choose from. I don't know how to determine which blade to buy.

I think I can help!

On the back of your trimmer, you will find your blade style. It is stamped in the plastic, so it is hard to see. Mine is pretty much in the middle, just to the left a little bit and says "BLADE STYLE K."

Good luck!

Thanks for the information! Hmmm my cutter must be too old. Nothing on back except for "#1" and Made in China Patent Pending. But been thinking about getting a new one since the lines where I place my fingers are pretty much worn off and make it difficult to cut some pieces.

In looking at a sure cut fiskars on AZ....I see the replacement blades-they say they are a G.

About the blades. Fiskars put out "titanium" ones that are supposed to last longer and of course are more expensive. I got them...I don't see a difference. I just think of that tiny triangle blade like a disposable razor now lol.

Also there is a difference between a cutting blade and a scoring blade so don't let that confuse you. Scoring just preps for a fold. You probably know that though.

If you get a new one it should say on the packaging what the replacement blades are-you can take a sharpie and write on the bottom of it. Or if you are in a store that sells them look at it.

Thank you one and all for all your helpful comments!! I would reply to each one of you, but at 3AM I couldn't find the reply.

#1Aunty, I will check my trimmer again in the morning. I looked there before I posted here, but I couldn't make anything out.

Dina, I still haven't heard back from Fiskars. I would call, but it seems they're out for C19.
Thanks you all so much!

Look for triple track blade part I. If your trimmer is triple track. G blades are for trimmers that are not triple track. I think all Fiskars Sure Cuts are triple track. If I am not correct somebody might notice that has more info. I think Fiskars is still not fully in office so replies are probably really behind.

Here is Triple Track- https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/crafti...-i-196750-1001

This is G- https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/crafti...-g-195960-1001

I hope that helps. Big welcome.
