Can anyone tell me why this stuff has caused my pictures to go yellow where the tape is underneath the picture? I thought this stuff was safe for pictures. The page I did was not kept in the light...as a matter of fact it spent most of the last year in a plastic container. Very frustrating as this was a page for someone's wedding.

Not all of the ATG tape is acid free; perhaps you had a roll that isn't.

one would think that they would all be acid free if they are meant for scrapbooking....one has to wonder sometimes...:confused: thanks for the help

There are two types of tape refills, general purpose and acid free. The acid free costs twice the price of the general purpose. Retail is about $5 for the gp and $10 for the af. You get 2 rolls to the package.

Whenever I have a coupon where I don't need anything that week (gasp!) I stock up on ATG tape.

The tape and original adhesive transfer gun were designed for framing use. I agree that it should still be acid-free, because you wouldn't want an expensive framed picture or print to yellow over time anyway. I have a few rolls of the General Purpose tape, and I use that on my envelopes or cards that I don't expect people to keep for very long.

For people like me who don't scrapbook, acid free is an extra cost that I don't want to pay. Also, I don't know about other brands, but the 3M Gold (acid free) is kind of stringy so I don't use it unless I really need acid free.

Like with any hobby, there are special use products and we have to be cognizant about what we need for a particular project. Sometimes cost is a real factor for the quality and other times it doesn't matter. If I want artist grade mediums I pay more but when I'm just playing around, I'll use a lesser quality/cheaper version.

I don't scrapbook, so I use the cheaper stuff on my cards. If anyone keeps those around long enough for the tape to yellow, God bless them. :)
