Default ??? about markers

My wonderful husband just bought me a new car for the big 40, but my birthday isn't for a week or so and he asked me what I would like that wasn't bigger than a car. So after some thinking I decided on Copic markers or something of the like.

My question is has anyone purchased the Prismacolor markers? They are alcohol based like Copic but the price point is quite different.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Suzi

I just got them and I love them!!!!! I hear they aren't as good as copics, but I find no trouble using them at all. I think they blend just as well and they are way more affordable. I will tell you that i got mine from staples for around $45 for a set of 24. Michaels had the same set for $90. that's a 50% mark up. We all know that office supplies are marked up horribly at staples, unless they are on clearance, so I don't know what Michaels is thinking!!!! Check the prices and if you want to get them at Mike's, use a coupon.

I got a set of the Prismacolor markers on ebay for a reasonable price and like them okay. I couldn't justify the expense of the Copics, and I'm glad I didn't give in to "public opinion" and get them anyway.

I actually find myself using regular waterbased markers quite a lot. There is a wonderful thread here about using regular markers and getting amazing results. Check it out:

Its really personal preference on which markers you choose.

The Prismas and Copics have a number of differences. I think one of the biggest differences is that Copics are a lifetime marker...you'll never need to buy the same color again, rather you would just purchase the reinker for it. Not the case with Prismas. I've also heard that Prismas can dry out quickly.

Another difference is the tips they are available in. Prismas only have one choice for tips, while Copics have a variety.

There are many good threads on here and also a number of blogs that give excellent information about these markers.
