Default Embossing with BS

How in the world do you emboss with the BS? I'm trying to use the brass friends that came with it and I'm following the instructions but its not doing anything. Can I use other brass stencils with the BS? Also does the CB emboss with brass stencils? I'm trying to decide if I need to pick up one of these. The BS is so big and all I have for room is a little coat closet. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

There was a clear plastic piece in the folder that has the brass friends. That needs to stay in the folder as the paper is pressed between the brass plate and the clear (credit card size) plastic impression. The cuddlebug embossing plates work perfectly in the BS. PM me if the doesn't make sense.

I finally figured out how to emboss with brass stencils in the Cuttlebug!! Hurrah! Between the B plates lay a mouse pad that is just 3/16" thick on the bottom plate. Put paper on top of that and brass stencil on that and then B plate. It works very well. Works better with less detailed stencils and works fantastically with some of my small snowflake ones!

If you're using the one that came in the starter kit, make this sandwich:

White Platform + clear cutting pad + Easy Emboss Folder with paper inside it, layered over the stencil design, and closed + 2nd clear cutting pad.

I had no problems embossing with the Embosy Emboss Folder in the above sandwich on my Big Shot.

Yes. But, you will probably need certain accessories to do so. Read this post here:

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

in the Accessories for Big Shot thread.

If you don't want to purchase those accessories to use off-brand brass stencils and other brand texture plates in your Big Shot, you will need to experiment with different sandwiches, possibly chipboard shims and other materials that others have been using, such as mousepads (mousepads vary in thickness from thin to thick, and I have no idea which one would work best) to get them to emboss those other brand stencils.

Some folks are using the Wizard Charm Embossing Kit in their Cuttlebug to do this. Others are using mousepads, and others are using rubber gasket sheets found at a hardware store. Results with all of these will vary and I can't tell you which of them would work best in the Big Shot with off-brand brass stencils.

You can explore the Cuttlebug Sandwich Stacks thread, HERE, and document to see if that offers any useful information you might apply to your Big Shot. Or, experiment on your own to find what works for you with your machine.

HTH,

I wanted to add that for some reason, cutting the mousepad extra big keeps the machine from making that squeaking noise. I have 2 pads and the larger works better for some reason.

Me Too! Literally speaking, I was wondering if it would be considered heat embossing or dry embossing:p

 Sorry!

Diane, is that guy in your avatar the guy who played Jasper in The Holiday? Loved that movie and he played the jerk so very well.

Well, I looked him up on IMDB and apparently you are correct -- he does indeed play Jasper in "the holiday". I guess now i have to go see that movie.

I actually first heard of Rufus Sewell (that's his name) when I saw him play McBeth in London a few years ago, and have since followed his career. He typically does play the "jerky" role, like in A Knight's tale or Tristan+ Isolde, but I just think he's soo cute! BS people -- Sorry for the hijack!
