The lady who was going to purchase one for me said that there was a lady with a basket FULL of them she said there had to be easily over 100. How ridiculous is that!????

Watch for them on ebay! or some other auction. Too bad they couldn't have limited people to 1 for at least the first day. I went to second session and most of us didn't even have a chance to get one--if we arrived after 10am that day. Seems like they didn't think there was maybe a problem when people were buying that many immediately.
Oh well--as Shelli said think about the positive.
1. I didn't spend the money--actually didn't buy one thing in Momento Hall and really don't miss it.
2. If I choose I can learn how tomake one myself and then teach my customers.
3. It was less to carry home.
4. Since I didn't spend any money there, I came home and did a huge catalog order and I will enjoy the Crop-o-dile MUCH more than a key chain.
There, I feel better already. Thank you Shelli!!

When I first started as a demo 5 years ago I made myself a keyring ribbon sampler. I'm planning on doing so this year - my downline is offering a ribbon share on our group and I'm participating.
How did you put yours together when you made them a while back?
You know someone always has to ruin it! When it was my turn to buy at Momento Hall they of course were OUT of the Ribbon Key rings. The lady who waited on me told me that people were buying 20 and 30 and more. I just cannot believe they allowed people to buy that many. ..... JMO

The ribbon key rings were a hit this year. I unfortunately did not get to Memento hall until the 3rd day of convention and did not get any. I don't necessarily agree with putting a limit on the number of items a person can buy, but because some demonstrators were over zealous in their purchases a lot of demonstrators went away empty handed. For such a popular item it would be nice if SU could offer a one time additional purchase - take preorders and make some demonstrators happy. I bet a lot of demonstrators that already bought them would also order more. I believe this would be a win/win situation for all.
There is usually a limit of 1 of each item on registration day. After that you can buy as much as you want, this gives all demos a chance to purchase. That was not the case this year. I would like to see them go back to that.
I just want to clarify that the person who charged that ship rate said the 2 ribbons would be 2 pounds to ship to me. I think it was an honest mistake -maybe she didn't understand the true weight or how to ship. Everything has been resolved. I love Splitcoasters thank you all for your help and input !
Oops I forgot to add if anyone has made their own PLEASE post a pic. I am still working on it but haven't been able to do one because of the bell. If I don't make a dupe of the SU one I think it can be done very easily and would make LOVELY PERFECT little gifts for our crafty friends
Nevermind - saw they were on ebay for over $20 already.
Let's be creative and come up with our own version.

I was also unable to get the keychain. I talked to one of the employees at convention. He said if a demo gets caught selling those on ebay, they can lose their demonstratorship. He did say there are no guarantees, but discussion going on about making them available as a supply item.
I know the scan is lousy (sorry), but here is my attempt at recreating the ribbon sampler. I used only the 1/4" and 5/8" grograin ribbon for this prototype.

Deb,
I love your keychain. I'd love to find out how it's made. I'd love to make some for my downline. Thanks in advance!
Aw thanks Diane! On another thread, Belinda King kinda took her ribbon sampler apart and found that underneath the cap, the ribbon was held by bead wire, a sequin and a seed bead so that's where I started with mine. I cut my ribbon (I went a tad long, the next one will only be about 5" long).
With beading wire, I threaded on a seed bead. Then I threaded the wire through a sequin (the seed bead become the anchor so the wire doesn't rip through your ribbon) and used a crimp bead to secure. I then 'strung my ribbon" onto the wire. Once all the ribbon is strung, I fanned the ribbon pieces out.
Using a 1/4" chair tip (found at my local home improvement store - it's soft vinyl feeling), I pierced a hole in the middle of it and fed my wire up through it - playing with the ribbon so that it would lay nicely. I then strung a small bead (not as small as a seed bead) onto the wire so it sits on top of the chair tip (decorative purposes) and then made a loop with my wire and crimped this loop with a crimp bead.
You attach a tiny split ring to the loop and then attach a larger (3/4" - 1" split ring aka key ring) to that. The piece is an extra large swivel clip (or lobster clasp can be used).
It's not as hard as it seems - especially if you have an original ribbon charm to look at as you assemble.

GORGEOUS!!!!!
And I have an idea (still trying to make my own lol) - the only thing missing is the charm. We could make out own with shrinky dink! How cute would that be? Maybe a pink colored heart or a butterfly. Add glitter or stickles.

Hadn't even given the charm any thought yet, but I like what you're thinking!!!

Thanks so much for the detailed instructions. I just hope I can find all the ifferent parts somewhere. I'm afraid I don't know a seed bead from a seed  But armed with your instructions I will go out and hope that someone at JoAnne's can help me find what I need.
