repositionable tape

We have had a lot of chats about permanent glue/adhesives....

I am interested in what people are using to stick CS to the misti or surface to keep it steady and then pick it up again w no damage on the back? I am looking for tape not liquids.

I have seen small tape runners in vids but I cant tell the brands....they just do a quick small piece and pop the CS on it.

I tried to search under repositionable here, but I just got permanent glues. If you have a link to a thread I would be happy to read it.

What are you using?

rockybeta 10-23-2021 06:38 AM

I always used Scotch brand double sided repositionable tape but when I ran out and couldn't find any I bought a tape runner from Amazon by Scrapbook Adhesives. It's actually a dot tape runner which I wasn't familiar with. I used it for the first time this past week and was impressed with how well it stuck, how easy it is to lift things back up and, best of all, if any residue is left on either surface you can use your fingers to simply brush it away.

Sorry I'm not techie enough to include a link and I already threw away the packaging but it is a dotted tape runner and it's a light green in color if this helps.

I use removable Glue Dots or poster Glue Dots. They've never ripped anything yet, and it's not that important, since it's on the back of the cardstock anyway. They also hold well until you remove them, and they roll right off the cardstock and/or the positioner. I also use them to secure smaller pieces of paper that I'm feeding through my printer again (e.g. journaling for my scrapbook layouts).

contrapat 10-23-2021 08:00 AM

I have searched for a particular type of tape that was used to tape 3 X 5 cards inside cookbooks from a store I used to buy from. The store is many years closed, so I can't ask them. It was a plain white paper tape, and it lifted off easily, and also restuck well. This is in books from at LEAST 20 years ago, so wouldn't I love to find that tape for crafting today??? Infuriating, frustrating, dang it!

Cook22 10-23-2021 09:07 AM

I just use a small strip of regular Magic Tape curled round on itself to make a closed loop. Without much pressure on it, it almost always peels off perfectly, but is sufficient to hold card in place when I don't have it butted into the corner.

wavejumper 10-23-2021 11:35 AM

Sabrina when you say Magic Tape do you mean the scotch tape?

Pat-I tried looking at a couple of library supply houses for your tape for you but no luck. Sorry.

Looks like scrapbook.com is having a 50% sale on their own adhesives today...I see the mint tape but a lot of people here said they don't like it. Even at half off it is very expensive too. But they have a repositionable dot runner that is not bad.

Funny. Usually we are trying to keep thing stuck on and now I am trying to be able to get em off again.

Cook22 10-23-2021 11:49 AM

I think the one I usually get is off-brand, but yes, the Scotch one that's sort of frosted looking, that you can write on.

While Scotch brand double sided repositionable tape might not be in stores, it is available in many places including: https://www.amazon.com/3M-Scotch-Rem.../dp/B001390CK0

I use the Scotch® Removable Magic™ Tape (only one sticky side, comes in a blue container) to hold dies still when I'm cutting cardstock with them, and I order several rolls at a time through Staples. Stores can carry only so many products, so online to the rescue!

wavejumper 10-23-2021 02:25 PM

Oh I didn't know I can write on it. I have that in the house. hmmm I get it from Costco. I just suspect if I try that it will be lumpy. lol

I tried the scotch double sided now that I see it, I recognize it. It tore stuff. And it yellowed and stuff. I tossed it.

iamvics 10-23-2021 03:38 PM

I use the Tombow removable adhesive. I got mine (& refills) on Scrapbook.com: https://www.scrapbook.com/store/bb-tm62203.html

wavejumper 10-24-2021 07:14 AM

Thank you Vic. That is probably what I have been seeing.

cheermom 10-24-2021 09:52 AM

I use this one too and it works great!! Never tears the paper https://www.scrapbook.com/store/bb-t...cid=a1k5_t72lp

I very highly recommend what Jennifer McGuire uses in her Misti rather than magnets or tape to secure the CS. She uses a Silhouette Cameo's Cutting Mat cut down to fit Misti's inner platform. I've been doing this and love it. The tacky surface that was designed to hold CS works perfectly for this application. Sorry, I'm unable to locate her blog post with this original tip.

zylarome 10-26-2021 08:26 AM

My favorite repositional tape is

Amazon Basics Hyper Repositionable and Refillable Adhesive

My favorite to hold my dies while die cutting is

Scotch - 8112PK Removable Tape, 3/4 in x 1,296 in, 2 Boxes/Pack, Post-it Technology

Dianne Barton 10-26-2021 08:46 AM

I'm a bit confused by this question. If you are using the Misti why can't you just use the magnets that come with it. Sorry for not understanding.

INKY ONE 10-26-2021 08:47 AM

Like Cheermom, I use the Tombow Mono temporary adhesive for all or any thing I need to stick for a minute, with no residue or tearing. I only buy the refills in bulk when it's on sale. For my misti, I use Sizzix accessory sticky grid sheets on a piece of plastic (dollar tree cutting mats). Save the cover sheet to protect the sticky side and it can be removed from the misti when not needed.

zylarome 10-26-2021 08:48 AM

Magnets get in the way. Using repositionable tape keeps your project perfectly in place and you get a great stamp every time

Dianne Barton 10-26-2021 08:52 AM

Ah. Gotcha! LOL
I sometimes use the 3M Artist's Tape that I buy on Amazon. I know that Lisa Curcio (SU) loves the Post It tape, but it is more expensive than the one I buy from Amazon. I also use it to hold some dies in place with my Big Shot.
This is pretty long l;ink so you may have to copy and paste.

I swear by Gina K adhesive dot runner and refills. I use it and it really is repositionable. Also if you watch her videos you will see it in action. She has shown it used in her Misti to hold down c/s and it lifts easily.

dini 10-26-2021 09:04 AM

I "know a guy" and got my hands on a monstrous "sample" roll of 3m premasking tape - it is very nice and extremely low tack, but I don't see it being sold anywyere in manageable sizes.

wavejumper 10-26-2021 09:38 AM

I will use magnets at times but it isn't just for the MISTI. Sometimes I want to stick it to my work surface too. :)

Lots of suggestions here! Thanks! :)

Repositionable Tape

When I find it on deep clearance, I buy rolls of 3/8" or 1/2" washi tape.
It works great and pcs can be used over and over. Hope that helps.

pixordia 10-26-2021 10:22 AM

This Sissix Sticky Grid Sheets is the best solution I have found.
I leave it in place. The grid lines are great for keeping things straight.
I keep the sheet I peel off - and put it back on after I finish stamping.

Maggiebru 10-26-2021 10:24 AM

I use Jennifer McGuires suggestion using the sticky mat from the cut & scan but I also bought post-it notes on a roll. It works really well and no problem removing it. Bought it at a box office supply store but can also get it from Amazon

K-F 10-26-2021 10:24 AM

I think you might be talking about Post-It tape, It's available in different widths. Good luck.

Sometimes the magnets would be in the way. Say with a 6x6 stamp and a A2 sized piece of paper.

DebbieinOC 10-26-2021 12:02 PM

I use the Sizzix Sticky Grid Sheets 6 x 8.5. They work GREAT! I stuck one sheet onto a piece of cs I cut to fit the Mist (8 x 6) for rubber stamps and another sheet on a mousepad that size for clear stamps. I store both of those inside my Misti with one of the transfer sheets between so they won't stick together. You can position the paper wherever you want as long as the sheet is firmly tucked into the corner. No messing with tape and you can use it over and over and over and so on. It's been a game changer for me,

What are you using?

. I cut a cricut mat down to the size of my misti. Works like a charm

kndondes 10-26-2021 03:32 PM

I use older circuit mats cut to size. Any sticky cutting machine mat would work. I love how it holds cs die cut shapes and then you can stamp where you want and it’s perfect every time.

Valeriesc 10-26-2021 06:23 PM

Like the idea of using old Cricut mats. Believe I have heard previous but haven't taken advantage of doing it. Will be using this idea for sure!!!

Wavejumper I don't know if you have a Michael's near you or not but they have a 20% off coupon online. I'm signed up for their rewards program and get coupons emailed to me every week (multiple times a week but can only use it once). Right now I have a 30%, last week it was 40%. I don't spend enough to get the rewards but like getting the coupons.

Michael's does carry the Tombow Mono Adhesive (Temporary) mentioned in above post. Would definitely go to store and not depend on online info. I found something at store last week that said online wasn't sold in stores. Could have just been I purchased from the last of their stock though. You could also purchase online and have in store pickup without paying the shipping charges.

Just a suggestion. Hope you are able to find what you are looking for to help you!!!

I think this is what JM uses ... I have these and they work great in the Misti. They just have to be cut down.

I just tried the Sizzix Sticky Grid Sheets and I agree that it is a great solution. I wanted to stamp off a bunch of images ready for watercolouring. The Sticky Grid sheet kept its stickiness even though I must have stamped 15 images.

2cards 10-27-2021 03:19 AM

I too use Scotch® Removable Magic™ Tape have been for a couple of years now and it works great. It peels off easily too when you use it to hold dies down to cut. I have also gotten it at Joanns.

musette 10-27-2021 07:13 AM

Works For Me

I too use Sizzix Sticky Grid Sheet. Works very well and I don't have to fiddle with it once it is in place. I am still using the first sheet I put down and it is going strong.

She's using it with stencils here, but it works for card stock as well.

jeanne3579 10-27-2021 08:27 AM

I don't have a Misti or any such tool, but I do use Scotch removable tape to hold down dies to run through the cutter. Holds perfectly for a half dozen runs and then kind of looses its grip. LOL But it is not expensive especially when you use your coupon from Joann (and I'm sure Michael's if I was lucky enough to still live close to one). I also use the Scotch double sided removable for holding things down to my work area.

harvestmoon 10-27-2021 08:35 AM

Sizzix Sticky Grid Sheets is absolutely what you need. Several sheets in a pack and you can cut them down. I used a 3 x 3 piece for many months before it became unsticky. It sticks to the foam pad (but remember that it can move too). You could put a full sized piece under foam pad then smaller one between pad and CS. No damage to CS ever.

and, uh, what would be your “finder’s fee” for passing along such a wondrous find. After all, this could be a Simon LaGree kind of goldmine for you…just twirl that mustache, and mark it up, oh, 30-40% or so…. (G)

Dini- Why do I have the feeling your guy is probably in construction, lol. I know my "guys" this is where I score the best craft supplies.

To all who are using their Cricut, Cameo mats with the Misti how do you tape it down so it doesn't slip? If anyone has a tutorial I would be grateful.

Not sure exactly what he does but he is able to get full size samples from a 3M rep. :)
