Default using multi step water colorish stamps

i love the altenew stamps that make the watercolor image seem so easy. do i really need three colors of ink? which if i wanted to do pink flower and say next time yellow flowers would be six different ink pads. can i stamp off twice for the lightest color, stamp off once for the middle color and then use full strength for the darkest color? or do i just not know what i am talking about? tips? thoughts?

I think second generation stamping works pretty well for many of those "layered" types of stamps.

I just saw someone on YouTube use Distress Ink for stamping three-layer flowers, and it turned out very well! When she stamped Spun Sugar as the base color, I realized that the palest Distress Inks would work well as the first layer since it doesn't matter how blurred or diffuse it looks as that's the look you're going for. So you'd only need one additional ink pad. I think that's how I'm going to do it if I'm ever lucky enough to get one of these sets :-)

Dont forget that using colours that can go together also can work. Like yellow and mustard or orange. Or whatever rocks your boat. Really its best to sit and play and see what works well together. Also as you use an ink, stamping over with the same colour on the next layer will darken that layer anyway.

You really don't need 3 colors - I have a 5 step set that I've done with just 2 colored inks and brown or black for the last step. I used the colored inks (a light and mid red) twice each, and I didn't stamp off at all.

Here's a picture of my first two layers using Versafine Satin Red - the second layer will be stronger because it is supported by the areas of the first layer that overlap. Hope that makes sense!

That's a great tutorial but now I want the stamp set. I think that's right about not needing to buy more inks.

You can absolutely do that, but your color would have to be dark enough so that there would be enough contrast to differentiate the layers.

Thank you for doing that blog post, Dina! It's an excellent step-out of your whole process.
It is going to be very, very helpful to me to be able to consult those steps when I want to use my layered sets and am having one of those "I know there's a way to do this... it's on the tip of my brain..." and you have already problem-solved the process for me!

All three of these cards were made using the method you describe- First & second generation stamping, so yes, it should work fine for you.
