I'm using a red ink pad for my Valentine cards and it is smearing as well as not giving a clear impression. I would
appreciate recommendations for a good red ink. I'm just using it to stamp sentiments.
In my search for the perfect red ink, I have acquired these four red ink pads:
Colorbox Lipstick Red Fluid Chalk Ink. — at least 15 years old and still like new
Memento Ladybug Red Ink — may be used with alcohol markers
Taylored Expressions Cherry Pop — semi permanent dye based ink, felt pad
SU Real Red. — watercolor dye based foam pad — this brand of reds tend to mold over time, so if you get a “golden” speckled hue on the pad, toss it and replace it so as to not contaminate your other inks. It is, however, a beautiful red ink to use for as long as the pad lasts (which will probably be a few years).
I’m sure every company that makes ink has a red in the line.
I have both Lawn Fawn and Gina K Designs inks. Both are the same formula in that they go on splotchy and then smooth out. They are dye based inks. Red Hot by Gina K is a true red color, similar to Ladybug in the Memento line. The Lobster color in the Lawn Fawn line is a bright red. Another Memento red color that is nice is Love Letter. It is a little darker than Ladybug. You can find the Memento colors easily in the Dew Drop line which is a small ink cube.

Thank you. Both sound easy to use. The first 4 cards I stamped with my red all has smudges or hard to read words.

Sometimes it is not the ink, but the paper. I find inexpensive cardstock does not stamp well. I prefer smoother cardstock. I use a lot of Hammermill, sometimes Spectrum Noir white, Gina K Designs. Many people swear by Neenah Classic Crest.

Thanks for asking this, @Sitka , and thank you for all the answers. I keep forgetting to use my cube inks because I have them stored in a separate container. I think I need to move them closer to my inkpad cart. I have Ladybug Red, but I never remember to use it!
I love VersaFine Clair, so it's good to know that Tulip Red is a good choice. Those inks work so well. I hope they add more colors to the line.

I'll try some different papers and see if that's the problem. Thanks for the suggestion. Its not one that I
usually think of..
Thank you for all the suggestions. After reading the responses and searching my usual sources, I
ordered the Versafine. I have a black Versaline and like how it stamps.
I just broke open a recently purchased Versafine Clair Tulip Red ink pad to test it out - I'm very impressed with it so Sitka, you will likely be pleased with your decision. I just wish I'd ordered more colours in this line of ink. There's always my wish list.
