I have had the 714 for a long time and even at one point had to send it in because the tape kept coming off when I used it. It worked fine for a little while and is now doing it again. Everytime I use it I have to push the tape back or it will slip off or tear off. I have wasted at least two rolls now and I am wondering how to get this to work. It is an awesome tool if it worked right.
Not sure but I am going to check when I get home. do you think it could be bad tape? I keep reading that there was bad tape or something. Whey my gun was replaced they sent me a few rolls but I am using the old rolls that were bought with the original gun.
I have bought other than the 3M tape and had loads of problems. Sure I saved money, but I didn't think it was worth the hassle. So I stick with 3M and buy only what I can use in less than a year so it is 'fresh.'

I'm thinking you don't have it on right. I know there are videos out there that show how to put it on. I absolutely love my gun and buy the 3M tape from dick blick. The no names just isn't worth the mess to me. I love this tool and use it daily.
Thanks everyone. I do have 3M tape but it might be old or something. I am going to make sure I have it on right. I also love it but will have to figure out what I'm doing wrong where the tape is concerned. I appreciate everyones input.
Make sure the tape is tight before putting on the black thingie (liner retainer) on your uptake spool or put it on, then rotate it clockwise gently to tighten tape. This worked for me.
