Question Best Tearing Method - What do you do?

So today's challenge brings up a question I have - What's the best way to tear. I never get the right look that I see on other cards - mine look like my cat got a hold of my paper and shredded it.

What am I doing wrong?

not all paper can be torn-recycled paper is really hard to tear nicely. But ink on the edge covers a multitude of sins!

Wasn't the tearing challenge a couple of weeks ago?
One thing is that it makes a difference whether you tear towards you or away from you. It goes without saying that I can never remember which way has which effect, but it really does make a difference. Try it and see.
If you want a very subtle, controlled torn effect you can draw along a line with a wet brush or aquapainter, wait a minute or two and then tear gently. This is great with tissue but will also work well with thicker papers (so long as they aren't coated) - you just might need to go over it with your wet brush another time.
HTH.

If I want a really precise tear, I place the cardstock along a line on my SU grid paper and then lay THE TEARING EDGE tool where I want the edge. I personally always pull toward myself when tearing.

The wet-line process works too, especially with thicker papers. You can lay a ruler (or the TE) where you want to tear, and apply a bit of water with a small waterpaint brush or the AquaPainter. Let it sit for a minute, then gently separate by leaving it flat and placing your palms on each half, then sliding them apart.

HTH!

I hold the card stock in both hands and alternate tearing away and towards myself, back and forth, back and forth, until I reach the end. I like the way it looks. If you tear only one direction, you sort of have a right and wrong side. HTH

I usually use my Tearing Edge, but sometimes just grasp and gently tear... Of course I end up with that "right and wrong side" thing going...
